I think we have to great young hookers to take over from Rein . Havili and Sam Coster . No reason at all Havili couldn't be out starting hooker . Great passing game , very fast out of dummy half , good strong defender and can be a explosive running lock if needed.

And Sam Coster is killing it with the Cutters ...He has it all . Everything you need to be a top class hooker . Both are young and should be in our long term plans . I don't see number 9 as a problem at all if we keep them both .

Mate your on a mission lol.

Lets rate Havili in due course. In the interim, the bold above, whether the fault of the club or not, have left us with Mitch at 9.

Im an not pro Rein nor am I against Rein. At the moment though he is our 9, and Havili is good competition .
Lets see how it pans out ?

Partly the fault of the club. I wouldn't have let Cook go and I would have done more to get Garvey up to scratch, but it is what it is.

Personally, I've seen enough of Rein to be confident that we need better. I'm not going to make the mistake of dating we wont win a premiership with him at hooker, but we need to find a better long term option. And as The Nick said, there's been no shortage of choices.

Yep, he'll start the season at 9. But Havilli is breathing down his neck, and has shown he wants the spot. Personally, I was excited by the signing of Havilli, he could very well be our long term hooker, we will see. He's got talent. Will also depends on how Rein reacts to the challenge.

I've been trying to find a silver lining with Mitch but it all became painfully clear during the CS.

Out of the 4 hookers who took the field, he was by far the least effective. McInnes had a nice first 10 mins and his solid dummy half work led to the first try. Cook had an impact straight away and looks like his form from the end of last year will continue. As for Havili, we looked pretty good with him on the field and he scored a nice try.

The only thing I remember about Rein was his kick dead and the pass he threw for JDB. Both clangers.

When you're getting outshone by 3 previously back up hookers, there is a problem.

Benji's kick was all but dead no Nighty good nighty over the dead ball line. So lets give it to Benji as well if were going to be fair.

You also need to have an objective view at 17:48 on the CS replay and see what actually happened and the role De Belin played in the fiasco.

Rein is incompetent at times agreed but so are many others in our team lets be little fairer and more rounded in our criticisms.

Coster was in the system yet was deemed not good enough to keep and was let go like so many other under 20's.

Garvey did himself no favours with his off field antics and suffered the same fait as AFB with both players thought of highly but let people down badly.

Cook left of his own accord he wasn't even playing dummy half at the time.

I can't remember to much being said about Cook until he had a couple of stand out games for the bulldogs . And Coster let me guess ..He was let go during the Price days ?

Bulldogs offered a little more, it was over the summer break and our people were off on holidays...never got back to him and he took it.

One of the dumbest things we've done. He is miles ahead of Rein now and would have been dirt cheap.

He is a decent player cook that is but i wouldn't be judging anything till he has actually done anything in the game which at present he hasn't.

http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/sp...tch-rein-puts-hand-up-for-blues-origin-birth/

St George-Illawarra hooker Mitch Rein was born and bred in NSW but he wasn't even on the selectors' map last year.

Rein was overlooked for a Blues jumper in the deciding game of last year's State of Origin series, when vice-captain Robbie Farah was battling a hand injury and second option Michael Ennis faced judiciary charges early in the week.

It might have been all a ruse, but the state's hooking stocks were so thin that even Melbourne's back-up rake, Ryan Hinchcliffe, was drafted into the NSW camp.

And while Rein was disappointed not to even get a call from coach Laurie Daley, the omission is motivation alone for a strong start to the year and at least put him name, or his birthplace, on the map.

"If anything, I just want to put my hand up to let them know I'm here," Rein joked to AAP.

"I know I'm capable. I've got a lot of faith in my ability. I haven't even spoken to Laurie, but the only thing I can worry about is performing week to week for my club and putting myself in that position."

First, the 25-year-old Rein will have to stave off competition for his own spot at the Dragons, with former Canberra utility Josh McCrone and Warriors hooker Siliva Havili signed up to boost depth.

Rein averaged just under an hour a game in 2015 and was again expected to share hooking duties in 2016, but welcomed the challenge of being pushed for minutes in the reduced interchange era.

"I've always had to compete for my spot, but there's a few more options there this year," Rein said.

"Due to a few injuries and lack of depth last year, it really took its toll and we went on a bit of a losing streak.

"This year, we've got a lot more depth all over the park in every position. We'll be prepared if we face any injuries. If we can be consistent, we'll be able to step it up another notch."

The Dragons close out their pre-season with trials against the Warriors and Queensland Cup side Central Coast Capras over the next fortnight before opening the season on March 7 against Melbourne.

But doesn't it mean he won't be pulling on the Dragons jersey for three matches and guys like Havili get a chance to shine............

Shows he really feels he is top shelf as a hooker.

Granted good to see he has ambition, is durable, fit and a first class defender.

If he plays SOO anytime soon NSW deserve to continue to lose SOO !

Perfect example of an athlete playing league.

He has zero footballing nous and average to mediocre passing skills.

I don't dislike Mitch Rein. If it wasn't for his terrible passing out of dummy half he would be possibly in the top 5 or 7 hookers in the competition IMO. Having said that, trying to pass the blame off onto Benji and JDB is just as moronic as your CS/AS suggestion. And that is extremely moronic. Very original but extremely moronic.

The main difference between Benji's kick and Reins was that one trickled over the dead ball line with Dragons players sweating all over it and it led to a try, albeit mainly thanks to Nightingale. Rein's kick flew over the dead ball line without any Dragons players being within 10 meters of it.

But that's ok in my opinion. This kind of thing happens to much better kickers than Rein. The JDB fiasco isn't ok. If it were jut once it would be ok or if it were only a few times a season it would be ok but this kind of thing happens on a regular basis with Rein.

And given that you have a copy of the CS game ready to go, watch it again and tell me in your opinion how JDB played. If I were giving out 3, 2, 1, I would go 3. Aitken, and 2 and 1 being a toss-up between JDB and Packer.
