Wondering why a thread relating to future board election process got merged into the salary cap thread.

The root of one may have been in the other but unless there is a limit on the number of open threads this doesn't make sense.

Can a mod either split them or perhaps send me a PM to explain why they were merged please?

because all previous posts on it have been in here because it is directly related to the salary cap

Default Update on the Motion for a PLC GM
My understanding is that Chris Losco today lodged more than 100 signatures for a motion to organise a General Meeting with the Parramatta Leagues Club. The Leagues Club is currently reviewing these petitions and then they will be reviewed by the Club's auditors.

If 100 signatures are deemed to come from valid three year members of the PLC, the board is required to announce the date of the General Meeting by July 15th and the meeting needs to be held by August 24th.

Chris’s proposal is for six directors to immediately stand down, and for Geoff Gerard to form a committee which may include a third party firm with expertise in identifying and selecting directors, Clubs NSW and the NRL. A PLC and a PNRL board will be selected, with four directors sitting on both boards. The remaining directors will be specialists in their fields of either football administration or leagues club administration. The new boards would be in place until at least the next election.

Apparently in his letter to the Club Chris included a request for the Club to work with him and others to define a process of selection that is transparent, simple and one which can be understood clearly on the night of the General Meeting.

The board will probably place the petition under intense legal scrutiny and to use semantics, procedures and anything else at their disposal to avoid their day answering to the members. Whatever the outcome, I recommend that members not rest until this board has been replaced by a team that has been independently verified, selected on their independent skill set and capabilities.

The merit selection is logical. Only people with an agenda or those who think they will fail against stronger individuals will argue it. Anyone who is considering the formation of a traditional 'ticket' should try and work with Chris on the merit initiative. If people are as good as they want members to believe they are, they should succeed in a merit process and start their tenure on the board knowing that the membership understands they are the best people for the job.

My understanding is this is the first member forced General Meeting in recent history of the PLC. People have spoken about a GM for years, spoken about collecting signatures and forcing change. It is great to see PLC members doing something about the state of our great club and trying to get the best possible board to lead our club.

Thanks for the explanation El D.

I started a new thread because the issues are now separated, and the GM issue will go on longer than the Salary Cap (if the final penalty is announced soon).

Is it possible to move the GM related ones to Gutful's new thread?

A polite post can go along way

We will leave the new thread as is and if time permits we can move the new topic's related posts over, its a slow process so if some one has the time we may be able to help.

Cheers

I hope that the petition has been vetted to avoid merkins deeming it invalid. Let's hope that they have dotted their i's and crossed their t's. The last thing we want is for this move to be rejected on a technicality and for the Chris Losco led raid to fail in an amateurish stumble.

No doubt the old guard (name your faction) will be hoping that it does not get up so that Raaay & Co can then discredit the instigators.

Apart from dotting i's and crossing t's ... Let's hope all forms are signed

Btw, I'd like to wish emjayce a top morning and hope he has a fabulous Saturday

It is with great pride that The Cumberland Throw announces that the petition calling for an EGM was today accepted by Bevan Paul on behalf of the Parramatta Leagues Club. This means that Merit Selection for the Parramatta Board moves a step closer to reality.

It is important to remember that this is only the first step in finding the right people to take up positions on the PLC Board. With an EGM now needing to be called within 21 days, it will be vital for those supporting merit selection to be present to vote on the night. It will also ensure that any “ticket” based groups do not use this as an opportunity to stage a coup.

As members, we cant wait for the 24th August which is the last date the board can hold the General Meeting.

The petition has involved incredible dedication from Chris Losco and fellow PLC members. The Cumberland Throw would like to thank everyone who has signed the petition in addition to those who have helped to put the proposal together. You will be able to read more about this in the Daily Telegraph and The SMH over coming days. Chris is likely to also be heard on Triple M NRL over the weekend although this is being finalised this evening.

Hopefully the factions stay the f**k away and actually put the club ahead of their linament sniffing fantasies. Unlikely.

OK, so now I am confused.

Andrew Eagleston has just advised of his "team to lead the club into the future" but I am not sure if he realises that the Board is the PLC Board and not the Footy Club Board (although there are some Directors that would be on both).

Apart from himself, he has included on his 'ticket' the following:
- Ray Price (and selected him as Chairman)
- Ian Sekuloski
- Paul Barber
- Two Directors to be appointed by the NRL
- One Director to be selected from Parramatta membership

Here are my personal concerns.
Ian Sekuloski, Paul Barber and Andrew Eagleston all ran for the Board in 2015 elections and Paul Barber received the most votes of these 3 with 392. Sekuloski received 137 and Eagleston himself received 171. Each of these are along way short of the 661 votes Cordwell received as the lowest elected Director so I am not sure why they now think the membership would find them better candidates.

Ray Price - enuff said.

Two NRL appointed Directors to run the PLC... I am not sure the NRL actually care about the PLC and as a member of the PLC why would I want the NRL to put people on my Board? Sure they can nominate some people for the PNRL Board (as part of the Governance Review they now can do that ) but the PLC Board. No thanks.

One Director from the Parramatta membership - umm, Hi Paul. Which membership? PLC/B&G Army/STH?

I am concerned that someone is putting up a petition to replace the current Board and they don't really know or understand the structure of the club and PNRL companies.

At least the other option doesn't pretend to pick the 'best people' from previous failed candidates.

Eagleston's petition includes 26 resolutions to be voted on at the meeting - wow, wow, wow.
