Even the American in 2nd, got a PB. Sick of them doing their best when it counts.
I'm starting to get a bit sus on them lol probably for nothing but they're everywhere and their finish is PERFECT.

Cate's interview made me cringe...

I think she needs 6 months at least away from the pool...

Horton disappointing but he was never beating the Italian tonight...

I'm glad this swimming meet is over...no doubt the Head coaches will be talking up the three gold versus one in London, but I think there have been more disappointments this time...

for the second straight olympics an absolutely disappointing effort in the pool by the Australians.

there is no sugar-coating the team performance and lets hope there is no misplaced scapegoats like there was after London.

It is obvious there is something fundamentally wrong within the swimming set-up in Australia.

Tommy just like criticising Aussies, I wouldn't take him too seriously. Campbell was obviously shattered and was hard on herself for her effort.

That said, not being a swimmer myself mind you, I can't understand how her coaches put up with her always being last off the blocks...when there's 12 one hundredths between 1st and 6th in a 50m sprint it has to make a difference surely.
Its just this reaction probably contributes to their pressure.
Our swimmers need to go under the radar a bit and we need to stop expecting them to get gold.
But that being said, we had number 1s in several events and they didnt even come close except Larkin.

Yeah but all of them have had crap starts, something is really up with that.

We need Wayne Bennett to manage the swimming team, given his record of getting good performances in grand finals, lol.

I don't know if we had as many top 5 swimmers in London did we?
This is worse on performance than London imo.

I think the suggestions that within the college swimming ranks you have weekly, heated competitive competitions AND their trials are only a month before the Olympics is a major reason behind the disparity between the two teams performances is right.

i think this performance is worse than London. We had so many favourites coming into these games (more than London) and every single of those faves bombed. Some in memorable fashion.

Yeah everyone blamed the 4 male swimmers in London, the rest of their choking team mates seemed to get off scott free. Well it's continued on here, everything was all Peachy though after those amazing world champs lol.

Some of the reactions are way OTT....we just have to face that we don't have the like of Thorpe, Perkins, Hackett, Jones, etc at the moment. But we had two teenagers win gold, the Campbell sisters are still young and already very good swimmers, and there's a lot of young swimmers going ok. There's a future there for sure, even if this has been a relatively poor Olympics.

Mac saying he was fighting off illness because he did 2 x max 200m frees this week. Never heard such bullshit in my life. He's a f**king 400-1,500 free specialist ffs.

Magnussen should have never got the beat up he did, he talked himself up and as a result was a capable scape goat.
But this seems to be coaching really, the reaction time thing is particularly worrying.

I doubt my venting here on this message board is influencing her performance..

Hopefully she is staying off all social media, but it concerns me that Cate Campbell immediately after this race is talking about her choke and heimlich manoeuvre from the race 48 hrs ago?

Surely athletes at this level should have sufficient support staff to make sure that they are concentrating on the task at hand- not still dwelling on something from two days ago?

I definitely agree with you but I think we get better results with our stars a bit more mentally hardened.
Opportunities missed.

Like I said not blaming the swimmers I think we've got some fundamental coaching flaws.

She blew an almost impossible to lose 100m, she just had to do what she'd done in all her heats, it would shatter anyone.

Only person I see blocking that out completely is someone like Serena Williams.

That's why I thought she was a chance in 50m tonight. The pressure was off because it couldn't really get any worse than losing that 100m final
