Ok so it is either Sam Burgess or Hayne.
And the winner is .........
Sam Burgess for sure. I rate Sam Burgess one of the best forwards that I have ever seen play the game. He is like a Ray Price in a bigger body. We need to replace Packer much more that Dugan. You could not get a better replacement for Packer than Sam Burgess. I think we have Dugan covered with Field or Dufty.

I doubt that we will sign Sam Burgess as he is still under contract with Souths for next year.

I would not be signing Hayne. I want to see Field and Dufty given a chance at a small fraction of the price that Hayne would command. Is Hayne a team player? I don't think so. Can Hayne recapture his best form? That remains to be seen.

As for Cronk, I can't see us moving our captain Widdop to fullback and moving our big name and big money signing Ben Hunt to 5/8 accommodate Cronk for 2 years. I think that Hunt and Widdop will be our halves next year and I am looking very forward to seeing how they go.

Millward stated they were looking in the market for a forward to replace Packer.
So who, as a forward, be the "ace up the sleeve" and be paid higher than Hunt?
Not really many candidates who are off contract only James Graham and Adam Blair of any note and that would be a big no from me for both.
SBW - Yeah I can see the merit there but has been out of the NRL for a while now and not really a prop.
So its either one of those two, or are we looking in Super League, hardly any $1m candidates there. Maybe RU? Theres a couple of very big boppers running around there but really not NRL standard.
So unless we're jagging a player from another club who is still under contract who is worthy of the $, i just cant see the rumour as accurate at all.

Now THIS is more likely.
Imagine a backline of

1 Folau
2 Herbert/Garrick
3 Milne
4 Lafai
5 McDonald
6 Widdop
7 Hunt.

I think that could be a premiership winning backline there.

We should have 800K that was offered to Dugan to put towards Folau is we were to chase him.

I am still more interested to see how Field or Dufty go at fullback. We could have a superstar on our hands in Field.

Millward did say the reported price of Hunt at 1m was well above the actual price. So maybe between 800-900k.

If the new signing is a prop, who is a prop that can command 900k? Burgess early release, Graham early release or who?

If the new signing is a back it will be Hayne.

Must agree , I don't know where the Big Sports Breakfast received their Imfomation on this one , however should it prove to be correct , the negotiations have been handled with the utmost secrecy . For all the ' panty twisting ' that has occurred since the story has broken , whomever the player is , had better be an more than adequate replacement for Packer or Dugan .

Field had a blinder for NSW tonight. Scored a great try and kicked goals including one from the sidelines. He should be tested at fullback this year.

Wait a second hang on... Sam Burgess? Where the f**k has this one come from?

Hayne I might understand but Burgess is under contract until the end of 2018 and there is absolutely NO whispers of Madge coming to the Dragons.

From Possm - he said Burgess is coming with Madge. Where else would that rumour have come from?

Forgive me but contracts :rolleyes::rolleyes: they don't count for shit anymore if your club wants to get rid of you.

Agreed, but I would say that all of the good forwards/backs under contract would be well and truly locked up. marquee players are well looked after. Unless they're pushed out, we can't approach them.

Dead right mate ......with the way contracts are set up now clubs only have a small window of opportunity to win the comp , around 2 years I reckon before the team becomes fractured and broken up with player movement to other clubs for what ever reason..the days of keeping all your good players is long gone...that's unless your cheating the cap or TBD

I think the salary cap issue is biting hard on a few clubs after the Eels fiasco so it won't surprise me if a few marquis players are not being pushed toward the exit door of some clubs.
The shit is going to hit the fan if clubs are not careful and I dare say that the NRL are sending out warnings to some clubs "clean up your house" or pay the penalty.
Castle isn't leaving the Dog's for no reason.
