Stats may of been correct but they don't really reiterate the point that Angus is worth 800k. I normally don't read any of nospam47' stuff but stats don't lie and I thought it was a very interesting article. I guess facts are silly..
Sigh. That nospam47 thinks a certain group of stats (that you admit they got wrong) is how a players salary should be gauged doesn't make it accurate.

No second rower is worth 800k. I don't have to argue this point it's a fact
No, it's your opinion and given you said Angus hadn't performed in the important stats (when he dominated the tackle busts and line breaks, meaning you don't think they're important) it's an opinion based in ignorance....and what nospam47 says.

Now if you can get passed the idea that you thinking something makes it a "fact", we can have a logical debate.

Cameron Murray is likely to play lock next year and early indications from Anthony Seibold are that Sam will be playing second row in 2018.

So there's a second rower on 800k. Given that in his second year of NRL Angus pushed Sam for our player of the year award as well as near matching his stats (Sam 33 tackles, 140m to Angus' 31 tackles and 121m) as well as beating him in tackle busts and line breaks, I'd say the idea that he might be worth 800k in 2/3 years time is a definite possibility.

Take into account his leadership skills and the influence he has off the field, then you trying to tell people that it's a " fact" that he isn't worth that much makes you look very, very ignorant.

Especially when all you're basing it off is nospam47

I think Angus is an extremely dangerous player with the potential to go to places that most players can't, but I don't understand why he's worth more than every other second rower in the game and even some locks. There's countless players out there that haven't backed up after breakout years.

I don't want him to stay at Souths because we offered him our whole salary cap and then 3 years later his impact is completely minimal because he's targeted by the opposition in defence.
For sure you are spot on mate.
Would you pay 600k or around what $?

There are that many people that moan about what premiership players are earning after delivering number 21 for the club but want to pay similar money for someone who stood out in a side that finished 12th. It's ludicrous and I'll say it again, if we need to pay that sort of money to keep him then he doesn't want to stay.

as this is a Souths forum , i feel i need to make a strong position with what i think are poorly judged Souths forum postings.

I agree we should not be paying MORE than offers from TOP clubs like Sharks or Roosters to keep Angus. Remember they are TOP clubs therefore their salary cap is just as important as ours.AND because they are top clubs they do not have to pay OVERS to get best players.

However our offer needs to be thereabouts to these top offers.
Is Angus worth it ......damn right he is and any Souths poster who thinks he is not , frankly has no idea and is happy to have another decade as also runs. Frankly we are paying too much for GI/SAM in comparison to Angus form/potential.Similar with re signing of Sutton and 2018 contract for Farrar .If you have an issue with our Salary cap split , that is where you take aim.

We should not be paying for past premierships , especially back to 2014. If we want another premiership , we need to pay for current/future.

At the end of the day life goes on with Angus or without Angus, there's 16 other players who will be on the park at some stage on game day who at their best can deliver the goods.
I'm actually a bit dirty on Angus for being entertained by the Shonkies and dining with Gallen & Ennis,I'd rather slap both of them over the head with a pork chop!

  1. Keep in mind that if Souths pay overs for Angus the rest of the squad will be lining up for contract upgrades.

Is Coen Hess, an origin rep, worth $850k? Wade Graham who has represented Australia? What about Tohu Harris who is a NZ international and premiership winner?
Crichton is a very good player but people are massively over rating him.
He is already better than Hess and it won’t be long until he surpasses Graham (who is 6 years older) and is reportedly on $750k. I dont wanna miss out on 25 year old Angus because we didn’t wanna pay him an extra 100k for the next 2 seasons. If a small over pay now keeps him here in his prime, then so be it.

So you don't think Cordner is on 800k????

I bloody well think he is. Origin captain and international player......

It will take 700-750 for us to have a chance of keeping Angus....

I hope 700k and TPA's on the side boosting it up a bit.....;

My main concern is haven't you heard the Roosters are trying to offload Napa who is on 700k there apparently!!!!! The Roosters would have to pay part of that to Parra....

Imo Easts are scheming and want to do everything they can to snag out Angus from us........ watch this space I say........ typical Easts......

When Angus played 80mins for us his impact on the field was enormous..... he will be a marked man but I expect him to still have pretty bloody decent stats.......
Agree. Whatever Cordner, Gillett, Graham and Harris are on, if it takes that to keep him, it will be worth it.

Break the bank for him. Honestly the meltdown from fans if he leaves will be worth, a bit extra. Hes the next marquee player behind SAM and GI of which both are entering the final phases of their careers. We need a crowd favourite, he's already that. Making sure he stays is a must for further club revenue too. Money spent on him will be recouped with other players leaving and retiring

As for top clubs like sharks and roosters, please, they'll forever be chasing the pride and passion the South's club exudes.

If we're talking about giving Crichton 800k then I wonder what AJ deserved to be resigned on. He actually did feature in our 2014 premiership. He would of been the top try scorer if he didn't get injured. He can play both wing and fullback. If Crichton's getting 800k then surely AJ is worth at least 500k. We'll be out of salary cap space after we resign 13 players with the logic in here.

Exactly right....... there is no young backrower currently as good as Crichton......

I only see him improving.....
That’s fine, let them line up. When they become one of our best 2 players, they can get paid like it too.
You're on fire mate.....

Bravo.......
