I agree the kid has unlimited upside to his game and is certainly a must keep for the future.

If the rumours about Lloyd Perrett are true it only makes sense if the Sea Eagles are paying a significant chunk of his pay for next season and desperate to free up some cap space.

If he joins us before the deadline he has already been paid the greater majority of his contract money for this season so I guess he comes to us with minimal cost for the rest of this season.

While he is still only 23 he has been a little underwhelming after showing early promise and the Manly fans from what I have been reading on there main forum can't wait to see the back of him.

I understand our roster has been decimated with injuries and our season is in danger of going pear shaped but I just don't see acquiring someone like Lloyd Perrett can offer any more than Kaide Ellis, Nick Lui Toso or if need be Liam Martin.

Having thought about this since the rumours first surfaced I personally hope his signing doesn't eventuate.

They need the roster spot not the cash

He's getting the required treatment and fulfilled his obligations. I'd be done for if the world shared your view. Instead I'm now a productive, functional and respectable member of society.

Turning around your fortunes is great Old Panther and we all respect you for that. I suspect your changing fortunes is for the long term while on the other hand Matt Lodge has been a good boy for a very short term. Let's see where he is another year or ten years before determining he has turned for the better. I've been around for a long time and based on my experience someone who has his character flaws may change in the short term but long term highly unlikely.

Todd would be a great bloke to have a beer or 20 with

That's right.

Todd Carney is a knock around bloke.

What has he actually done to see him banished from the NRL.

As far as I recall his only criminal convictions were minor offences such as Offensive Behaviour and Malicious Damage in Goulburn other than that it was self inflected alcohol related issues such as the bubbler incident.

In respect of the bubbler incident if a supposed mate hadn't took a video and posted it on social media no one would have been any the wiser.

I feel sorry for Todd Carney is so much as he is an outcast and others such as Matt Lodge and Russel Packer and currently playing in the NRL having been responsible for far worse indiscretions.

He did more than that.

  • 2004 - Todd Carney debuts for the Canberra Raiders.

  • 2006 - Todd Carney is charged with drink driving and reckless driving, resulting in a 5 year suspension of his licence.

  • 2007 - Todd Carney leads police on a high speed chase. He gets away, then hands himself in the next morning. He pleads guilty to charges of failing to stop when directed by police, negligent driving and driving while disqualified. He escaped jail, but the Court placed Carney on a 12-month good behaviour order, banned him from driving until 2012, and sentenced him to 200 hours of community service.

  • 2008 - It is alleged that Todd Carney urinated on a man at a Canberra nightclub.

  • Also 2008 - Canberra impose an ultimatum on Carney which includes a five-point plan, whereby Carney would have to stand down from training and matches for the rest of the season; go on an alcohol ban until the end of 2012; undergo counselling; complete a community service program; and pay a $20,000 fine. Carney asked for a variation of the plan where he could avoid points one and two. This was unacceptable to the club board. On 7 August 2008, the Canberra club sacked Carney and terminated his $400,000 a season contract. Carney was de-registered by the NRL and would not be eligible to compete in the competition until 2010.

  • 2009 - Todd Carney goes on a vandalism spree in Goulburn, jumping on a car bonnet and damaging the entrance to a Fone Zone store. He received a 12-month suspended jail sentence, and was ordered to undertake alcohol counselling. He is also banned from Goulburn for 12 months.

  • Also 2009 - Todd Carney reportedly injures a man by setting his pants on fire in an incident on New Year's Eve. The man suffered burns to his buttock, scrotum and upper thighs after allegedly having his pants set alight by Carney while on holiday at Airlie Beach in Queensland.

  • Still 2009 - Nude photos of Todd Carney are discovered on a Tesltra store phone after it is lent to a customer.

  • 2010 - Todd Carney signs with the Roosters.

  • 2011 - Todd Carney gets charged with drink driving and is stood down by the club.

  • Also 2011 - Carney, together with Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala, broke a team agreement to not touch alcohol for two weeks and all three players were subject to disciplinary hearings. Carney is subsequently let go by the Roosters.

  • 2011 - Todd Carney signs with the Sharks

  • 2014 - A photo is leaked of Todd Carney urinating in to his mouth. He is subsequently released by the Sharks.

Alcohol related stupidity is all Todd Carney is guilty off?

In comparison to others convicted of serious criminal acts his indiscretions pale into comparison.

I understand where Unima Panther is coming from in respect of violence against woman. How can you possibly compare a crime or incident where there is no victim as opposed to an incident where the alleged offender or perpetrator assaults a female being a partner or otherwise.

Yes setting someone on fire is a victimless crime. I also don't care about the victim's gender. I care about the offense committed and how to prevent it in future/correct the perpetrator's behavior.

Drink driving and a high speed chase is a bit more than alcohol related stupidity. It's also a long way from curb stomping a bloke and entering a private residence and attacking the inhabitants.

I don't want those blokes put to death but damned if I want to win footy games enough that I'll enjoy seeing them in Panther colours.

Tbf I've been a part of some pranks that had the potential to go that bad. There but for the grace of god and all that.

And the fact that he was involved in domestic violence before this incident.

All misdemeanours?

His record is not great but I would suggest his record pales into comparison when compared with what some like Russell Packer was found guilty off or what Matt Lodge did in New York?

There are also many instances of NRL players being charged and convicted of offences against women being assaults, breaches of orders or whatever and I would suggest such offences are more serious in the scheme of things than the offences committed by Todd Carney.

Seriously, anyone who assaults a female is a low life and it cannot be justified no mater how minor the alleged incident may be.

Todd Carney's indiscretion's were stupid but at the end of the day he only really hurt himself notwithstanding driving over the influence has the potential to hurt others.

Make no mistake. I don't want these guys in our team. I just can't be hypocritical on the subject.

Oh so that makes it alright then? We are human, and we all make mistakes, however, there are certain boundaries that are not to be crossed, and this is one of them.

So the death penalty it is.

You're trying to make crimes against women sound worse than other crimes due to gender rather than the offense committed and that's rediculous.

I notice you have failed to mention the man Lodge assaulted. You sound kind of sexist.
