If I were Norman and/or Moses, I'd be going begging to Johns to firstly put down the pills and then have a separate review/training. Andrew Johns, not the chimp

Norman: I have to step up and lead this team

The Parramatta Eels 2018 season is officially over with the Blue & Gold players beginning their season reviews before going on their off-season break ahead of the 2019 pre-season.

Speaking with Big Sports Breakfast this morning (Thursday 6 September), Blue & Gold five-eighth Corey Norman says the side has completed their reviews, looking back at the 2018 season.

“We have had reviews on Tuesday and Wednesday. We just spoke about the whole Club review, so that was brought up with everyone and then on Wednesday we did individual reviews,” Norman said.

“We have two months off so we will get back on November 1st and it’s a very early start but you have no choice when you finish last.”

Speaking about his review with Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur, Norman said the directive was clear for him, needing to step up, lead and be professional next year.

“Brad said that come next year, I really have to step up, lead and be really professional next year. I have to come with a positive mindset and really lead this team,” Norman said.

“That is what came out from it, it was a very disappointing year, obviously my football wasn’t up to standard as well, so we looked at that too and discussed how we were going to fix that.”

“I think it will be the senior boys that will have to lead,” Norman added.

“If Haynsey is still there, no doubt he will have to step up, and it will have to be the senior boys that have been around the game for a while to take next season to a different level.”

With the Eels attack struggling to click in 2018, Norman said his relationship with halfback Mitch Moses was not an issue.

“Mitch and I, we have no issues off the field and there isn’t even an issue on the field. Just sometimes things don’t work out,” Norman said.

“We are both dominant halves and playmakers and both want the ball at the same time and sometimes that doesn’t work but we have to figure something out really quick and how that is going to work.”

Obviously failed the dickhead test at every other NRL club.

So assuming that Moses and Norman can get their act together in 2019 and find the same combinations as they did in late 2017, that Mennings refinds his missing mojo, and we don't buy anyone else of note, I reckon our top 17 looks like this in 2019.

1. Hayne
2. Fergo
3. Mennings
4. Gutho
5. French/Gennings/Siva
6. Norman
7. Moses

8. Paulo
9. Mahoney
10. Alvaro
11. Lane
12. Moeroa
13. Brown

14. Ma'u
15. Mannah
16. Terepo/Evans
17. Niukore

Reserves:
Gower
Salmon
Smith
Kafausi
Kritchard

Not as bad as 2018's performance would indicate and capable of top 6 if injuries and form are on our side for once.

Yep, looks a little stronger than what we put on the park this year, but really needs a shift in performance (obviously) to do anything of significance.

And yep again - opportunity for a massive cleanout for 2020.

I know its probabaly the best we can do with the current roster but if that is our top 17 for next year a lot of fans will still be disappointed. If Evans can make our top 17 we will still struggle. A bit more starch needed methinks.

I see a lot are out off contract end of 12019 and will be playing for contracts, big decisions to be made as what we dont want are players like our halves putting in a good year, having their contracts renewed and going back to crap for 2020 as they have their immediate futures secured although I cant see BA renewing both of them.

Alot of off contract dudes potentially either:
a) distracted or
b) playing for a contract
How i would divide em up

Distracted: Moses, French

Play for contract: Norman, Moeroa, Mennings, Mau

Do their best regardless: Alvaro, Gutho, Gower, Mannah

Evans needs to do some boxing and learn how to take a punch and get really f**king angry at the merkin laying into him.

Reckon there's a few merkins on here who would happily throw a few at him.

As long as he didn't throw any back
