Why would they want money. The BS would of carried on for 2 years if Ivan stayed. They upgraded their coach and we look like fools...

Months ago we had people saying we needed a premiership winning coach, anyone better than hook but someone who could take us to the next step.

The choices were few but the Tigers have ended up with the premiership winning coach and we get the one who “almost” got us there back when we had a premiership contending side (not my view of that side but a common view amongst fans)

Ivan Cleary could end up being the Brian Smith of coaching. Either that or plenty will eat their words, including me.

As it stands, I think this is a bad move but it is what it is and it will put the focus on the club and the team throughout the season, for better or worse.

Des Hasler is a premiership winning coach, does it make him a good one? Idk how anyone can say yes after he has severely damaged the last 2 clubs he was at. Maguire was sacked just 2 years after bringing Souths their first premiership in what? 40 years?

Ivan Cleary may not have won a premiership but I doubt theres any coaches out there that could have taken the teams he has coached in his career all the way, maybe Bellamy gets the Warriors over Manly in a GF but that's it, now he has a team that is at least a contender, I don't think we're as good as a lot of fans like to make out but we do at least have a shot, I think he deserves a fair go especially after we f**ked him over in the first place.

Maguire couldn't make the finals in 2016 and 2017 with an identical squad a rookie coach came third with in the following season.

He's got no plan b and this was clear to Souths. This is why they replaced him with an inexperienced coach.

Compare this to Tigers who bitched and moaned publicly for months about Cleary possibly leaving and of course they'll try to play this whole thing off as a win afterwards. But the reality is that the coach Tigers are getting wanted to be the coach of Brisbane instead and will bring a dated style that got him replaced with a nobody at a previous club who did a far better job with the same team. We're getting a coach who's first choice is here and he has a reputation over a decade of making players and teams perform above their ability despite their player and facility shortcomings. Whenever he's had a half decent squad he's taken them to the finals and now he's getting a great one. He's never been sacked because of the team performing poorly or because he's implementing an outdated style. He was voted the 2nd best coach this season by the players.

That's who we're getting. US. The team that came 5th and almost made the Prelims with all of the shit that happened this year.

Call me biased well I think you're being overly cynical just to seem like an unbiased source of information even though that's incredibly counter-intuitive on your behalf.

This is nothing but a fat win for us.

2 premierships. 5 GF's show Des can coach. The front office is to blame for the contract situations.

No plan B? Before they won the comp they played in 2 PF the 2 years before. How many teams do 3 PF's in arow?

Mcguire's shown himself to be quite a good short term coach but judging by how it ended at Souths it looks after a few years players get sick of the intensity of his training and start to really dislike him.

Well time will tell. Maguire was sacked by Souths because he only won 9 games in 2016 and again in 2017.

Sure he won a competition.back in 2014.. But his coaching style wasn't really effective for long and might not hold up today. His players didn't like him much either. He has question marks around him like any coaching change would.

The year he leaves his rookie replacement turns them into a top 4 team. With essentially the same roster.

Im not convinced he will be an upgrade for Tigers. They dont have a roster nearly as good as the Souths was.

There's a huge difference between coaching a huge club that is in good shape with basically unlimited resources and rebuilding a struggling club. Maguire will be in a new situation with Tigers. As will Ivan with us.

We do? I don't feel like one. I was pretty happy with CC and Wal. Now we possibly add IC to the brains trust. Ivan's not an idiot. He'd already know our team's strengths and weaknesses back to front.

....Why would they want money? ...because they're a club that thrives on playing the victim.

Pretty much this. He will be good for NZ as it is short term. As a club prob only really should do 4 years max

It is clear the Broncs spoke to Seibold months ago. Possibly before we sacked hook. Yet kept their cards too their chest.

Compare that to the way we handled things from the initial presser onwards. The story changed several times.

Certainly looks like we enticed a rival coach to break his contract

Is BA a good coach? Top 4 last season and should of knocked off the storm first game.
Wooden spoon this season.

NRL is tough. Every sides decent. Injuries and bit of luck play a part. As does players individual form.

Coaches all can coach. Some have easier runs. Heck Bellamy had 3 of the AUS spine most his career. And two will goat in their positions.
Bennet always had good squads most his career.

Hook was ok. Not special but ok. Took Panthers to the finals every year. I think looked worse under Ciraldo personaly.

Lmao. I hope we put this out in the announcement. Are we announcing him joining today?

Not sure when the announcement will happen. Maybe they are waiting for the Tigers to announce Maguire first? If that's the case, they will wait until after the Test tonight.

As I mentioned before, my biggest issue with Cleary coming back is the 5 year deal. Even the biggest Cleary fan here would acknowledge that is a bit ridiculous?!
Yes, but this is the Panthers we are talking about! If we get a year of mediocre performance, they will extend it by another 3 years!

It really doesn’t matter what’s happened in the past, I was pissed when Ivan was sacked and I’m glade he’s back.

I’ll judge him after he’s had a fair crack with a decent team.

Definitely not passing judgement until he’s had a chance.

A fair crack is a single season with our roster.

There’s no more excuses for Cleary if he can’t make the top 4 next year. Anything else is a failure.

Considering who he made the top four with in 2014 anything less than a grand final appearance is a failure. Just making the top four would be bang average.

I dunno if we finished 6th but won the comp I wouldnt be upset.

Top 4 and/or week 3 of finals should be our expectation. Week 2 of finals is a failure.
