I dunno if we finished 6th but won the comp I wouldnt be upset.

Top 4 and/or week 3 of finals should be our expectation. Week 2 of finals is a failure.

Obviously, but this standard of squad should really be getting into the top 4 from the regular season. Much easier to make the GF from there.

Is our squad really better than that of the Roosters, Storm, Dragons, Sharks, Souths? I don't think so, especially with our spine, we can make top 4 but we are still a level below to those clubs IMO.

Dragons have a woeful backline and halves who ALWAYS crumble. They don't worry me in the slightest

I agree they have a poor backline but they have arguably the best forward pack in the comp and a really good spine minus Dufty, but you're right they always seem to fall apart at the back end of the year, one year it will all click and they will win it all, probably need a new coach for it to happen though.

Agree. We remain at least two to three top quality players away from saying we have a top four squad. We could make the top four with our current squad but there are so many variables not the least being injuries which have a bearing on how the season pans out.

ATM no we are a top 8 team but not a top 4 team

Is BA a good coach? Top 4 last season and should of knocked off the storm first game.

NRL is tough. Every sides decent. Injuries and bit of luck play a part. As does players individual form.

Coaches all can coach. Some have easier runs. Heck Bellamy had 3 of the AUS spine most his career. And two will goat in their positions.
Bennet always had good squads most his career.

Hook was ok. Not special but ok. Took Panthers to the finals every year. I think looked worse under Ciraldo personaly.

Robinson and Bellamy aside. Bennett 10 years ago would of been in the great class. The rest of the coaches last year we average at best. Des and Maguire fit in the top 5 coaches in the comp. even Toovey is better then half the NRL coaches

As I mentioned before, my biggest issue with Cleary coming back is the 5 year deal. Even the biggest Cleary fan here would acknowledge that is a bit ridiculous?!

I reckon Cleary played hardball and said he'd only come under a 5 year deal so if he's fired he's guaranteed a real good pay out.

I think its possible that we can. If Kikau and Blake are fit and firing they are undefendable. Of course the forwards/halves also need to hold their own.

Me, I'm looking foward to see how Cleary goes with a squad that doesn't require a re-build. I believe with a bit of luck it could go very well.


Daz I agree with you rearding the term, I think this was worked out to give Ivan a security blanket. Hopefully it proves to be a masterstoke.

We finished 2018 one win and some F/A off the minor premiers. In a season full of drama.

This squad is top 4 quality. If Ivan cant get this roster into the top 4 he is as useless as Hook was.

I dont see any coaching missing the finals with a roster as naturally gifted as ours. Well unless we lost both halves, Kikau, Blake and DWZ for the season.

The good teams will pressure the left side and halves then what? That for me is what we lack even at full strength the top few teams have a 3rd play maker or something more than an awesome left side

Manly and Knights will be stronger too. Cows fit too should push the 8.

No Ivan coached team scored more points then we did this year. Defence will be the improvement

Assuming we run out 1-13 as predicted. I hope Maloney/Cleary change sides both for attack and defence. Luai off the bench. Hopefully that is enough to give us that extra bit we need

May will come off the bench. He covers more positions and will be better after a good pre-season.

we were sitting top 3 for half the year, and even towards the end when we were shitting the bed we almost made the 4. i think we are definitely a top 4 side. however a grand final side, im not too sure about. i think we are another quality player (forward especially) away from a grand final appearance.
