He had him signed mate, Hayne was all but locked-in. It was only after these accusations came out and he was arrested that the club went cold and pulled out. In fact we were pretty cautious to begin with. Would you have preferred he signed him earlier, then have him be under investigation while he's on our books?

There's a reason why we put so many precautions in the contract we tabled to Hayne. Would you prefer we fall at his feet and pay him exorbitant amounts of money, only for him to end up in jail and putting us in a tight spot with our cap?

Love the back and forth with you Possm, but you've gotta wake up here.
Agree what you say TRVR, though I believe if a player is found guilty of such an offence as Hayne is alleged to have done, then his contract can be torn up with no further payments.

Regardless, we have far better options to persue.

Young, committed, positive, genuine hard working players

Not Haynes of the world.

It is only because he and Mary have a relationship that it even got close.

Saved by the bell.....

Careful Possm, we could ask you the same questions when you make your accusations due to Millward's fault or inability to do..anything!.
A lot of us on here are us frustrated as you are re decisions our club has made in the past including coaches, players, boys club mentality etc but none of us know the real facts when it comes to salaries, and what is going on behind the newspaper print in recruitment / retention negotiations.

That's OK BLMO1, I usually say in my opinion or I'd say. I know that it would be very rare if any of us on here had documentary evidence. I just seemed like you might and that's why I asked the question.

I was of the mind that Dragons offered 500k which was rejected and countered with 700k with the likely outcome to be 600k - 650k.

As it turns out I am glad we did not sign him however, I would love the Club to sigh a good winger / fullback or centre / fullback as I'm worried about what would happen if Dufty were injured or well out of form. Mann would not be an option and Field would have all the same problems as Dufty.

As it is, I'd be happy to start with Dufty at fullback, Pearson and the next best winger on the wings, Lomax and Mann in the centres and our halves remain unchanged.

If Hayne was not in his current situation, in my opinion he would have been the ideal fullback for the Dragons. But that is all spilt milk now. Tell me some names. Who do you put forward as being available young, committed, positive, genuine hard working players?

Possum, I would rate Haynes last season as a 5/10.

He was no better than Lafai or Aiken in the centres..... and Duffy was better as a FB
Hayne played poorly up until the final 5 games when he was attempting to put in to win a contract. However, 85% of his season was poor.

I don’t want players with that poor attitude around our club.

I am not a talent scout, however, I am pretty certain if our club made up its mind back in July or August, we could have signed a player with better skills and attitude than Hayne.

Current Playing skill 6/10
Attitude 3
Team work 3

Sorry, a big no from me.

Sometimes you don't know if a player will make a good fist of a job till you give them a try. Wingers and fullbacks are now almost interchangeable, particularly in defence. Nighty always made a good job of both fullback and wing apart from his last and most forgettable year. Yes, I'd rather be in the position of
having an established player at full back but rather than hire risky and disruptive players like Hayne (and you could throw Dugan in there again as well), I'd rather a calculated approach in intra club and trial matches that we give Lomax, Pearson and even Pereira (who is a Nighty type player) shots at the job as back ups if Dufty again fails. I agree Field is not a full back and should be cultivated for a halves role.

If Mann does go , does that mean we will be looking for three recruits ?
Big prop
Fast experienced back
And ??
In my mind I have Mann at 4 in place of Lafai, so to answer your question, if Mann left we would need:
A big first grade ready prop - 16
A fast winger/fullback with good kick return and defensive skills - 5
A fast centre/fullback with good attacking and defensive skills - 4

I will be very surprised if Dufty does not improve 40% this year and make number 1 his for the next 12 years or so.

He has / is learning and will show his mettle I believe

My problem with what you have said above is, what if he does not. We now do not have a substitute fullback and the way things are going, probably won't. At least Herbert played well at fullback and left centre in ISP last season.

He'd still get criticized around here.

I don't see it that way at all. many a players have copped a battering on this forum, some for good reason, .

From most posts that I have read, Dufty is very well regarded here. Those who dont rate him as high, such as myself, in many cases have said that after 2018, he will be our FB for 2019, however, he has massive areas to improve in.

That's all.

We collectively love his speed, something we dearly lacked, but his flaws are also there to see. Lets wait until next season to deliver a verdict. As with all those who don the Red V, I wish him well, even if I have my doubts.

There are enough young guns coming thru possm to cover that if it happens, relax mate, you are being negative, chill buddy, we have this.
