Really?
In November I met a group of New Zealander guys watching the England V Kiwis match at the Casino in Melbourne. We soon got chatting about rugby league. I asked one of the guys "How come they don't have rugby league in the schools in most of New Zealand?" He answered : "There is
no room for it" I replied that "They could play both codes just like what happens in Australia?" He was stumped for an answer and shrugged his shoulders. These guys loved both codes but it looks like one code is getting preferential treatment compared to the other. And this has been happening for many years. No wonder it's a massive effort when the Kiwis win an international rugby league tournament!
My take on it is that rugby league should receive the same amount of access and presence as rugby union. Most people are not aware of this distinct difference between Australia and NZ. Mind you elite private schools in Australia still shun rugby league and allow other codes a chance to participate.
