I don't understand how anyone can talk with such certainty about what so many players are paid. I get that it's necessary in a sense to be able to have conversations about signings, but given it's such a private component of the game the speculation, embellishment and lies would be higher than any other area of reporting. And media seems to be no better than a coin flip on everything else.

This.

From this weeks Masked Panther

Tyrone Peachey’s move back to the Panthers appears to have hit a snag with Penrith and the Gold Coast unable to agree on the terms surrounding the 27-year-old’s release. Everyone is on the same page – Peachey wants to come back to Sydney, the Panthers are happy to have him and the Titans are comfortable with bidding him farewell – but money is the stumbling block. The Panthers and Titans will need to sort out their differences over the issue before June 30 if Peachey is to be playing for Penrith this year. Otherwise, the deal might not be done until the off-season.

One deal that does appear to be on track is Waqa Blake shifting further towards the city to join Parramatta. The 24-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, may have played his last game for the Panthers with the Eels deal all but sealed.

Trading Blake for Peachey. Absolutely f**king stupid. Why do we insist on weakening our roster each season?

Be nice to actually go into a season with a better roster than the previous year for a change.

Peachey and Blake is a wash for mine. Peachey is a much better attacking player than blake, Blake a is better defender and bigger bod, both have shown zero form this season.

He is happy to pay the right ones, just cause it’s bellamy doesn’t mean he can can convince Bromwich to sign for 500k, that would be the best deal in the comp. I don’t know when Nelson signed his last deal but if he’s not on good money yet he will be on his next deal.

When it was Slater/Smith/Cronk it stands to reason he wouldn’t have been able to pay props big money, I mean they had to let Inglis go after they got caught cheating.

Also Bellamy worked with Bennett and Bennett’s talked about not paying too much for props.

I don’t think you can nail down the exact figure, but I don’t think you can take a fairly good guess based on a few factors. Who else is in the team, media speculation, the length of the deal.

You nor anyone else knows what he pays players. He doesn't under pay, else he wouldn't have needed a second set of books to keep his illegal roster together.

That’s exactly it. They got caught, had to release Inglis because of this. A significant amount of their cap was invested in 3 players, you can use deductive reasoning to make a pretty good guess that outside of those big 3, no players were getting paid big money. Hell they had to release others like Hoffman.

Why? We have Cleary, Tamou and Maloney (and RCG) reputedly on big money. As well as DWZ and Blake supposedly on fairly big money according to some. I think it's just pie in the sky stuff. We don't know. You don't know.

Those guys were three of the greatest players of their generation. Different league to the guys we have on big money.

Hell maybe it is pie in the sky, but I enjoy the discussion.

Yeah im aware of Bennetts stance im just not sure Bellamy is the same. Not being to afford to pay props a lot isn't the same as being unwilling to pay them. As the balance of the salary cap has changed with Slater and Cronk moving on he has held onto some much higher profile forwards.

I know they were over the cap but he signed Mock Croker from the roosters so I think hes willing to pay if he thinks they are good enough.

Ultimately I think it’s a problem at the Panthers. We’ve likely paid Tamou & RCG big money, not sure that’s best where our needs are met. Although it’s good to see Tamou step up this year.

We probably have low paid hookers & a fullback, to me money is better invested there than in the props.

Over the years many players have demanded to play in the spine because that's the big money positions or so they should be.

Swapping Blake for Peachey makes our backline shorter yet again. Without Naden in the team there’s no one to kick to. They’re all short fellas.
If Ivan had his way we would have Corey Thompson bringing down the overall height of the team too.

Ivan obviously doesn't like attacking kicks. Or else he wouldnt be trying to build a backline with no targets.

Brad Arthur is obsessed with Fijians he wants to keep the Parra fan base onside as he is well aware that it is they who will decide his fate always . After all Parra is the mob.

Waqa isn’t a good target for kicks. He’s tall sure but he can’t catch and quite often he doesn’t time his jump right and goes to early. In 3 games Nadens scored two tries off kicks and setup another with a tap back, he’s a target.

And are we taking the Thompson reports as gospel? That was a pretty clear back track from the reporter how could anyone believe it after those reports??

But Naden may not be in the team before long, and especially if we get Peachey.

Don’t get me wrong I’d have him on a wing at very least, but I’m not sure that’s the way Cleary would go.
