So on trell. Anyone shed some light on whether the nrl can actually approve a contract so far under perceived market value?

Apart from the argument it's souths so they will

It's the NRL.

A precedent was set re Falou and Parra.

Therefore, anything can happen.

If we pay him $400k this year, it's probably equivalent to what his current Roosters contract is worth for 2020... Especially considering that the $400k is for 3/4's of the season and the Roosters have already paid him for 1/4 of the season. So is it really under market value?

We are essentially buying out the last year of his current contract on the basis that he proves himself at fullback this year and we have a look at a new contract for 2021 onwards.

I don't see how the NRL could have a problem with that?

Lols... Easts fans trying to undersell how good Teddy was before he got there and also accusing other teams of trying to buy a comp.

Easts bought the best Fullback and Halfback in the competition and won two comps off the back of it.

In the process, they ran two local juniors out of town to fit these guys in.

Getting rid of Latrell took longer than getting rid of Pearce because they managed to convince Latrell that he could play centre and be happy with less money but this only lasted a few years. Now that he's trying to switch back to his preferred position and earn what he's actually worth in the process, Easts fans make him out to be some kind of monster.

They tried the same thing with Pearce and playing hooker for less cash but he wouldn't buy it.
Is that what he's trying to do? Because he was offered the fullback spot for 1m a year at the Tigers.

Instead due to a shortened offseason he'll likely end up playing centre at Souffs for 400k.

So if that is what he and his entourage were trying to achieve then I'd suggest it's about to become the greatest failed move in league history.

No but people trying to undersell how good he was is disingenuous.

Easts added the two best players in their positions in arguably the two most important positions and have gone on to win two premierships. It's a blatant example of buying a premiership (or two).

Any club not trying to buy a premiership is doing it wrong. It is literally the purpose of recruitment.

Galeforce level nonsense
A sad attempt at bait or early onset mental deterioration?

So the precedent is:

1 rule for Souths, 1 rule for everybody else?

I don't see how you come to that conclusion? When we originally tried to sign Inglis, our contract was knocked back at the discretion of the NRL because the contract was worth less than his "notional value". It was the first time that term was ever used by the NRL and we had to release Beau Champion and increase Inglis's contract value under the cap before the NRL would ratify the deal. In the ten years or so since, the only other time this idea of notional value has been mentioned was when Parra tried to sign Folau.

So... Really... We are one of only two teams that have ever actually been affected by it.

Whichever way you cut it, Mitchell has been forced out because Tedesco is better. You don't sign Tedesco in 2017 Mitchell would probably still be your fullback today. It's where he played all his junior footy and it's what he was promised before someone better came along and you had the opportunity to sign him.

I don't blame the Roosters... Anyone would do the same thing. It's just funny that you all try to deny that this is what has happened.

Just like how Roosters fans say Pearce was greedy for not sticking around and playing hooker or coming off the bench when you signed Cronk. The Roosters made the best call for the club and Pearce made the best call for his career.

In hindsight, it was the right call and it's been justified with 2 premierships but it was still rough on Pearce.

lol this is going to take some serious Todd spin. Tigers offer $1mill, Souths sign him for $400k. Lets see you explain this one away Toddles. Kent will be whinging about this on NRL360 all year!

What needs to be explained? Latrell obviously thinks the Tigers are shit and he doesn't want to play there, no matter what they offer him.

You can't make someone play for a team if they don't want to play there.

If Latrell went to the Tigers you could easily argue that they'd be a better team in 2020 than Souths; especially if Arrow fails to get an early release.

Notional value lol

Again... When you add what we will pay him to what the Roosters have already paid him so far this year then he's probably earning what he would have been paid for the last year of his Roosters contract anyway.

If he'd have signed elsewhere and stayed at the Roosters for 2020 or if we buy out the last year of his current deal (which appears to be what is happening) then his notional value for this year is whatever his current contract is worth.

Latrell obviously doesn't think so. Or maybe he wants to play under Bennett? Who knows? It's a judgement call on his behalf.

I'm sure once the ink dries on the contract we'll get a full explanation.

Ahh ok my bad. Also Wests we’re knocked back one for Benji Marshall in 2009.

More to the point ... McGuire will push him to places he will not enjoy being (freakin hard training and playing) and not allow him to visit places enjoys being (Taree) during the season.

Add to that the fact he'd have to be the Tigers best on ground every week for the $$$ he'd have been on.

Tigers have dodged a big mistake imo. So has Mitchell.

Wayno likes the types who need a cuddle and will cater accordingly.
