Why are troglodytes saying the Roosters fail to protect our players? We are giving the legendary Boyd Cordner half the season off even though the concussion specialists (proper specialists; not internet idiots with no medical knowledge) say he doesn't need to miss any games

So why the cap relief? It's hard to claim injury from a rep game if you aren't injured.

Surely if Cordner suffered a concussion in November and isn't fit to play in March 4 months later some serious questions have to be asked about how and why he will be fit in round 12, and whether it's not a genuine concern that he be allowed to return at all.

Comparing Cordner to Foran is ridiculous. Foran suffered a completely new injury. Cordner suffered yet another concussion after already having multiple concussions during the season.

I would like the Roosters, and the NRL, to explain why Cordner is unable to play prior to round 12 supported with medical evidence. If this is a club decision, then no dispensation should be provided.

If the NRL lets Boyd Cordner play footy again and he suffers another concussion, he could realistically sue them for about $27 million. There will be a class action against the NRL for head injuries very very soon.

As for the salary cap relief please!! What a disgraceful JOKE!!! I wonder how the Melbourne Storm feel now. They should have just declared all their players had head injuries in 2006 and 2008.

Obviously should be an independent doctor that approves it before allowing such relief.

The issue isn't the concussion. The issue it is an existing injury

true but with stuff like this happening you can see the nrl being ultra conservative and not wanting to do anything that could be construed as being detrimental to a players brain Heath. Supporting clubs to sit players out for long periods is just another thing they could show they are doing to reduce risk if they find themselves in court in years to come.
I dont have a problem with an injured reserve list like they have in nfl for any player out for three months or more with a serious injury. Gives some other player a chance to step up and earn more money.

Too true, a player with Boyd Cordner's profile could easily bring the whole NRL down if he gets a real serious head injury from now on (post 5 separate other concussions).

I pnstead of giving the RLPA millions maybe they should put this into a trust fund for players who retire early due to repeated concussions?

That's exactly what the AFL is doing, Perth Red. The AFL is establishing a $2bn trust to support players suffering the long-term effects of concussion. and the AFL Players' Association has allocated $24.7 million to the fund, which is expected to be accessed by up to 200 former AFL/VFL players per year. Past players will be eligible to access grants of up to $8000 towards treatment of football-related dental issues and joint injuries.

And now Jake Friend is multiply concussed and done and out in Roosterville.

Thats three blokes with major concussion issues - Friend, Cordner and Luke

No doubt the roosters will be looking for more salary cap relief.

Pretty convenient medical specialists say he is fine to play... But Roosters say he needs to miss exactly as many games as is required to get full cap relief.

I suspect there’s been some input from the NRL privately to avoid criticism for the game. It’s probably why they’ll be accommodating the cap relief request.

What I don’t get is why people are so worried about this?

who do people think the roosters are going to sign for that money that is a like for like player, and also available?

What are the options that are even available? do they understand that the money cannot go into upgrading other players contracts?
