I think Marata attacks better than Blake. It's like the old myth that Sandow was shit house at defence but great in attack. He was actually shit in attack too. Just like Waqa.

I like Marata and having him starting at centre means we can utilise his trucking runs even more. But that’s largely the extent of his attacking repertoire. He was also able to once a couple of weeks ago get outside his opponent to draw the winger so he could offload to Fergo. He’s never going to be able to have a game like Waqa vs Smugfers early last year, beating his opponent and using pace in the backfield. Waqa’s problem isn’t attacking skills, it’s consistency. And defence (but hey Canbra scored a try down that side on weekend).
I don’t know where Waqa (or Matto for that matter) fits in, but currently the best player on our bench is Oregon followed by Hipgrave. Is Waqa definitely worse than those 2, let alone another 2 guys on top of that? At the very least we know there’s someone capable of putting pressure on Waqa to perform.

Take last year. We were ball tearingly close in both finals matches. Just some dumb periods of play that cost us. Melbourne scored 3 tries in 8 mins after Blake's in-goal shocker.

The Jennings saga the following week was pure shit. Unacceptable the way that happened. But the start to that game was phenomenal and Gutho played out of his skin. Didn't put the foot on the throat when we had a chance though and got found out.

Effort in both games was solid. But the great teams know how to get it done.
