Sullivan half, Amone 5/8th, Hunt Hooker, Mbye 14, still short a good forward
I have no doubt that Hook will be trialling Hunt/Mbye several times as the hookers and having Sullivan/Amone combo for a few games to see how things pan out, but in regular games, he will stick to McCullough with Hunt at half and Amone at 5/8th. Sullivan to be on the bench.

The team missed Hunt in the games that Hunt was out because of his broken arm. If he played, we could have jagged a few wins and we missed Lomax's goal kicks which would also have helped us win a few more in the last 9 games or so.

Overall, Hook will have a better squad to win us more games next year. It's up to the players to perform to their full potential and to remain super fit.

Doubt it- He's shown already he's a gun full-back in attack and will need playing time to develop the specialist communication and positioning skills
Relax all.

The article now reads as follows...

Predicted Dragons best 17: 1. Jack Bird 2. Cody Ramsey 3. Zac Lomax 4. Moses Suli 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Moses Mbye 7. Ben Hunt 8. Blake Lawrie 9. Andrew McCullough 10. George Burgess 11. Jaydn Su’A 12. Tariq Sims 13. Jack de Belin 14. Talatau Amone 15. Josh McGuire 16. Daniel Alvaro 17. Francis Molo

Clearly it was an error.

Just like them selecting Bird at fullback...
Sloan and Amone have to be in the starting line up and Bird And Mbye to the bench.

If sanity prevails this will be the starting 17.

Sloan
Rava
Lomax
Suli
Ramsay or Feagai

Mbye
Hunt

JDB
Sims
Sua
Molo
McCulloch
Burgess

Bird or Amone
Kerr
Lawrie
Mcguire

Sanity or playing safety first, overly conservative and not looking to the future - or indeed not looking to win many games.
You may be right because Hook seems as anally retentive as Mary.

I want us to move forward and win games. I'd have a starting team like this for the trials and go from there and hopefully this or a very similar team for round one. Big blokes who can lay a platform and little fast, skillfull blokes who can capitalize. Bird, Woods and Kerr are off-load specialists, lots of 2nd phase play there. JDB,Lawrie and Sims were all below par this year, they need to work a lot harder to earn their spots next year.

1. Sloan
2. Suli
3. Bird
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa
6. Amone
7. Sullivan

Don’t really mean to offend here but are you f**king stupid? Buy molo on 500k+ who played for QLD this year to play reserves?

I wonder how long it would take for people to start whinging if their selections wishes / fantasies came true and they get flogged a couple of times?

One thing I have learned that in this place there is very little patience shown even when people get close to what they want / wish for.

Yes a lot of young talent to be looked at and nurtured but IMO the fact that they have played so little football over the last 2 seasons is all the more reason that they need a few old hard heads around to guide them.

The belief of what they did in juniors or Flegg translating quickly into 1st grade (on the back of the point I made above) is a noble aspiration but it sure as hell can end up hurting their careers as well.

I think the draw will have some bearing on when these kids get their chances especially in the early part of the season.

Hopefully we get a soft draw and play teams that are establishing new combinations as well rather than drawing the well established / performing teams that have incredible depth as well.

Seriously though, no disrespect intended but Hook is going to have a hell of a time to get results out of this group. Quite an eclectic group...old timers, discards, injury-proned gambles and a couple decent players as well.

I like that we are at least trying to recruit players to assemble some sort of team but it isn't panning out for 2022. Hoping November brings better news for 2023 but now clubs have the Dolphins to fight it out with.

So much rests on the likes of Sloan, Amone and Sullivan to bring some light to this joint.
Agree, and we're all talking about Sullivan as if he's our's long-term. He's not. Get it done Dragons. Don't f..k this up!

On the most recent Red V Podcast author Geoff Armstrong gave the three things that the most successful Dragons teams have all had over the years:

1. They were the fittest team in the competition.
2. They were very disciplined - very few stupid penalties (or 6 agains these days I guess)
3. They had a powerful forward pack.

Based on that, how are the Dragons looking for next year?
Well 2 often let’s us down badly. Can’t win with our current level of discipline; still building option 3 imo

$500K isn't a lot for a prop, we recently let a very experienced $850K SOO and Australian prop walk out the door. He played 2 SOO's off the bench but might be lucky to be there next year if others are fit. He's a good defender but not big on making metres. Do you want Lawrie, Burgess or Woods playing reserves to make way for F.Molo. If Lawrie doesn't perform, fine give Molo or McGuire a shot. If Francis kills it in 2nds he'll earn a call up (his younger brother might even surprise us). There's only 17 (or 18 now ) jerseys available. Also, fk u, don't call me names.

"Let"
We kicked him out the door and for the record he wasn't remotely close to being worth the money we paid him.

Having watched Lawrie over the last 2 years hard to understand how he could be selected to start ahead of almost every other prop we have let alone Molo.

As I said before Lawrie at this point of his career is behind Graham at the back end of his career and he offered very little indeed other that the same attribute people give Lawrie namely "heart" and that simply isn't enough

Sullivan half, Amone 5/8th, Hunt Hooker, Mbye 14, still short a good forward
But I think Hunt should be the half based on his performance this year. Is his age showing or was he doing the forwards work he fractured his leg earlier then an arm later. Thinking about this Amone is the 5/8 unless he is still a bit green then Mbye comes in. If we want to keep Sullivan he has to be the half or on the bench to cover Hunt and Hooker. Hunt might find that he can't keep Sullivan out and will have to be Hooker. Interesting problem IMO.

I’ll call you what I want and I’m not going to ruin this thread however molo was not bought to play reserve grade and he walks straight into the starting front row. Get over it and f**k your stupid opinion. That’s all

Mate, pull your head in.
People are entitled to their opinions without having to be called f**king stupid.
I enjoy @kit66 input and more often than not I’m on the same page as he is.

Hopefully by the charity shield hook has an idea on who is performing and is in the top 17... I like most on forum is surprised by our player purchases BUT we do need better depth across our top 30 and we dont need players like maranta on our books . At least these players have played first grade so can be called up if injuries or suspensions happen. Definitely I would have liked a "big name " like finucaine but it looks like we make do again. the 1 year contracts work in our favour and a few seasoned veterans in reserves will help the young kids. not to mention more pressure on our top 17. And maybe guys like Molo might just come good for us . fingers crossed ..
