Unless you enjoy talking to the dead, I just don't understand why you keep replying to Pou.
Don't you just feel as though you are banging your head against a brick wall?
He's the most boring, repetitive person on any forum I've read, ever.
And you’ve read a lot of forums!

His mental gymnastics are funny. He does make some good points occasionally.

Not true. The only one of our backs Penrith would take would be Drown, and he’d play centre. They’d probably take a few of our forwards but they don’t really match Penrith’s defensive style.
Gutherson is wasted at centre and like I said earlier, not really physical enough to excel. I think if Reimis Smith was fit they’d prefer him.
You could make an argument for Penisini over Tago and Blake over May. You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think Penrith would take our starting forwards on their bench at the very least. You’re also delusional if you think Reimis Smith is a better centre than Gutho if they were both available at the same price.

If Drown joined as a centre, one of Tago or May would get dropped (Crichton to wing). I don't think Penisini or Blake are better than either of those two, and if they're only as good they aren't 'walking into the team'. All else being equal there's no reason to replace a player with one equally as good.

I said they'd take a couple of them. We have several middle forwards who attack better than most of Penrith's, but the Panthers prioritise defence over attack in the middle. And as good as Lane and Papali'i are, they're not as good as Kikau.
You’re also delusional if you think Reimis Smith is a better centre than Gutho if they were both available at the same price.
I'd say Smith is faster and stronger, which covers most of what makes outside backs effective. Gutherson is better than Smith at a lot of things (and is a better overall player) but I think Smith is a better outside back.

Hughes and Moses don't defend well enough to play anywhere but the spine. Drown is at least as good at centre as in the halves. Maybe Gutherson could move, but I don't think he's physical enough for centre.

Gutherson would be a good defending centre but doubts he'd bust the line often. Plus on to much.
I think if we lost Moses you move Guth to halves and look for a fullback. People talk about Russel but he is an unknown and could go down to another hyped up junior. Without sounding negative I feel if a kids that good by age 20 he would be in the side over Opacic. Waqa would go back to centre.
I've seen Opacic at NSW cup level and he is above that. And I do think Russel will be in the NRL soon but I am unsure if he is a star in the making or another Dunster level player?
I'd rather keep D.Brown over Moses if had to chose.

Not me. Moses’ kicking game and ability to create tries is much harder to replace than Drown’s running game and defence. In saying that, I truly hope we’re deep in negotiations to retain both. I can live with not forking out the big bucks for Ice to get them both across the line. It might mean we need to run with Matto on the edge and have Hopgood in the middle. We also have Brown and Bryce still on our books who can also cover those positions so I don’t think we lose too much. Someone like EIi might also be a Smokey for next year on the edge after a big preseason.

pretty much what I said a few days ago.

we’ve seen how we play with and without Moses over the past month. Theres simply is no substitute for a elite type half. We need to keep both.

Agree. Both have really developed under BA. Moses defence is as good as you need a half. His kicking game is #1 in the game. His short side is #1 in the game Dylan is now in the zone and believes he belongs and can make a difference as a running 5/8. His short kicking game and money ball game are excellent now too.

I said this time last year that Lane and Dylan were getting in each others way. Oh how that has changed. Their combination is killer now.

I was concerned Shaun Lane was the only backrower that was signed up for 2023 at the start of the year as i saw him as 3rd choice so its great he is living up to his potential.

We are definitely using him better.

Papali'i will be a loss but certainly can be replaced by an edge backrower on the right.

I don't think our 2023 squad will be too bad too expect a sudden drop to the bottom half of the table. Half those sides down the bottom have a lot work both roster wise & fix up the losing culture they have developed to jump up.

It frustrates me though whenever players get interviewed like freddy last night telling moses this year is your last chance to win a premiership because 4 or 5 players are leaving.

I hope mentally the players still here don't think that way.

Pou just gives it his all because he virtually assumes he was been put on the wrong debating team at school. The team that has to argue about something even though deep down they don’t truly believe in it.

Squad next year will be fine…doubt we will drop much if at all….

Marata / Kafusi are gone, they go ok, but are hardly our main forwards (yes Marata has been decent recently), but we have JH from the panthers, the knights player, plus our current players, Ogden, rodwell, Cartwright, all able to replace them. Won’t lose much

Mahoney is good, but we have Hodgson. If he can stay on the field we may lose youth but we get experience. Won’t lose much

Papa - big loss, hard to replace. However he may stay and if not we still have $500-600k for a replacement……

additionally we still have players like Drown / Will still improving…

This time last year Brown was playing on the right and Lane mostly in the middle, with a bit on the right.

The decision by the coaching staff to move Brown and Lane from the left to the right last season was inept, and in hindsight, a sackable offence.

I'm actually really excited about seeing Josh in the Blue and Gold - he is pure class.

I think Mahoney is a very good player, but Josh Hodgson is better in pretty much every area (barring maybe long passes; Mahoney's long bullet passes from dummy-half are laser-like).

In the last 2 weeks the whole squad has stood up, as evidenced by the improved defence and number of tries scored.
Sure there have been some silly errors especially in handling but that's Parraball.
We have earnt the right to toss the ball around and looked good doing so.

I just hope BA hasnt got us peaking too early like last year.

I think this is the perfect time to peak you just cant go into the finals out of form. Take out souths game 4 out of last 5 strong performances.

We have stumbled into the finals in 2020 & to a certain extent last year.

We had a great win against Melbourne in the 2nd last round that come out of nowhere after being flogged for a month leading in. But other then that our form was ordinary.

I said it during Manly game when Lane spilled an offload attempt, those errors are “ok” (but don’t drop it FFS), because it’s about cracking the defence (although doing it for 20 minutes straight with no success can be detrimental). The Drown forward pass is less ok. And Opacic has lost his tap on privileges.
But since the Souths game there’s been a marked improvement in defensive intent that has been the real turnaround. If we maintain that, we’ll at least be a chance.
I just hope BA hasnt got us peaking too early like last year.
After the 10000th time last night someone queried the record of back to back score lines against, I thought of Souths last year and their lurching season. It’s not the best blueprint for success nor can we necessarily emulate it, but it shows you can be complete horseshit during the season and still be competitive when it matters

Souths only lost 4 games last year. So they weren't poor.

2 of those losses to Penrith & 2 to Storm. Didnt lose to anyone else.

They just happened to get flogged by 50 twice in the space of 3 weeks in May by both of those teams.

Other then that they were pretty dominant there F/A was +322 which included 2 x 50 point losses so it could have been 400.
