Cape Cyan Natural Blonde, trying to work out why i had a bottle of this in the fridge, i know a rep left it at work for us to taste but checked it on line and it is an Aldi product. Long story short, i needed some beer for the onions on the BBQ so i opened this, just drinking whats left, have to say it is very easy drinking, a bit light on but for a Blonde beer it is more than passable with no bad after taste. Would a buy a case or 6 pack of it, no but it was offered to me again somewhere i would happily drink it.

Reschs Real. It's a much lighter flavoured Reschs Draught. Crushable.

Though because of the NSW branding on the bottle, it specifies on the back it's brewed in Yatala... 😑
No CUB brewery in Sydney anymore..

They did, however, shift the fermenting tanks from the old site near Central station up to Yatala..

So its kinda the same?

maybe?

Yeah the brewery is long gone, the only thing that exists of the old Tooth's Brewery is a smoke stack and an original gate. For a while CUB had the old Bluetongue Brewery on the Central Coast, but that is done with too. So it's either Yatala or Abbotsford for CUB product.

Guinness / Killkeny draught.

It's St Patrick's day soon so I'll be pretending I'm Irish. I wanted to buy a case of some good stuff but I've heard that the draught is brewed here in Australia now? Not getting good reviews.

Anyone recommend an international importer here in Sydney? Just for the draught not after the extra stout.

Guinness is brewed all around the world so I wouldn't worry too much that it's not actually brewed in Ireland, there are alternatives that are actually brewed in the Emerald Isle like Murphy's, do some research, Cheers!

Yeah that ^^^

Probably be hard to reliably find decent imported Guinness, Lion won't allow it if they can prevent it.

Tbh I haven't had either for far too long but I always used to slightly prefer Murphy's anyway.

Cascade Premium Origin is good.

It's down to $15 at First Choice Liquor. It was outrageously priced at $32 for a 6 pack when it got introduced. Now it's reduced to clear.

Years ago I went to Tasmania and had the Cascade Lager down there. No luck getting it on mainland Australia. They won't send it out here. Similar to Coopers Draught you can only get it in SA.

First Choice marking down until they are absorbed into Liquorland, used to love the old Cascade ads but it's been a long time since they've made a Premium lager like the old days.

Why?

All I know is that it was stupidly overpriced. Now its available to the layman and I can drink it. And its a decent drop.

Why don't Cascade 'export'? Apart from the garbage light they have flogged up here for years. I'm guessing it will break them. Too much money to send a decent beer to the mainland?

They absolutely butchered the Cascade Premium brand about 15 years ago. Overnight, they went from 375mL to 330mL "Premium European Sizing" (even had that written on the carton) with no changes to price and no notice to the consumer. It went down like a lead balloon, with customers flocking to Boags Premium or another brand instead. By the time Cascade changed back to 375mL, it was too late.

They also don't want to out compete their own brands in the category. Is Cascade still CUB? Obviously they have winners in categories that they don't want to damage by introducing another product if it goes well, and the flipside is there's no guarantee it sells at all and getting it to market is costly

Yeah, Cascade is still part of the CUB portfolio.

The Cascade Premium bottle change was also around the same time as the VB alcohol level change, which didn't prove as disastrous for CUB but it did take a lot of back pedalling.
