Back in the day you were almost the sole voice of reason when trying to collect data from club annual statements and questioning the status quo. But decades of posting on this garbage dump and having clowns rip you for every single post you make has changed you and now it seems you just take the devil’s advocate position on everything by default.

The LNP aren’t building this stadium because we need it, they are destroying one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world so their developer mates can make a quick buck, knocking down part of Queensland’s history and then using the majority space in Victoria Park to build a stadium that will host less events than other, older stadiums like Lang Park and it will never reach capacity.

Victoria Park stadium is objectively the wrong decision by every metric. The stadium taskforce was clear on this and so was the IOC/AOC. This is purely a money grab by the LNP.

This isn’t Perth where they needed a new stadium for their main sports and had a shitload of unused land to build it. It’d be equivalent to keeping Subiaco and building a 50’000 seat football stadium just for the Glory and Force to use, and on top of that losing 60% of Perth’s King’s Park in the process.
I wasn't arguing the toss on if it should be built or not, just that to say you cant build a major stadium and have beautiful natural environment around it is total tosh. We have a prime example of how to to it here in Perth in what was a greenspace wetlands area bordering the river. The whole area is enhanced and has much greater public use now than it did before the stadium was built. It really is stunning parkland area now with natural playgrounds. rehabilitated wetlands, lovely walking trails and public amenities. Just copy what we have done here and Brisbane gets a stadium and parklands around it that it can be proud of.

Understood but Victoria Park isn't equivalent to vacant land next to the casino in Burswood. It's equivalent to King's Park, and significantly smaller at that.

Look at a map to see how much less greenspace Brisbane has compared to Perth.

There's a reason why Queenslanders are pushing back while interstaters are presumably only thinking about a fortnight in 2032 (and AFL fans simply don't care).

An interesting side-story to Auckland's long running stadium saga - the Auckland provincial cricket team are looking to move their games away from Eden Park (Currently using the #2 ground there) to a redeveloped Colin Maiden Park.

The plan is for international games to still be played at Eden Park (main ground), but interesting that SOME cricket is looking to move away to a dedicated oval.

Looking at this soccer World Cup qualifier v Japan at Perth the oval just is not good enough. The aerial view just showed how far away the sideline is. Horrible. This sports mad country deserves a proper venue for these types of games.

It wasnt vacant land, it was green space made up of public park, wetlands and a 9 hole golf course.

Kind of like what Cricket Victoria did a decade ago by moving the majority of their domestic fixtures as well as training and administration facilities away from the MCG to Junction Oval in St Kilda. Auckland PCT doing a copy of that should easily make Eden Park feel less squished than it is right now, particularly behind the in-goal areas

Wembley is not really rated back here in the UK, it's already out of date and not even 20 years old, so that may be your nostalgia talking!

Any revamp to Homebush needs to look at stadiums such as Tottenham Hotspur, Allegiant (LV) and SoFi (LA) as a blueprint, not Wembley.
Was there in 2015 and last year, not ‘dated’ at all.
Those stadiums are no where near 90k.

Wembley had the same builder as Accor and the views from the upper bays are just as bad

The two stadia are very simple and it is dated when compared to the likes of arsenal tottenham or Everton

Wembley was one of the last behemoths from the bowl stadium era in the UK and it really shows. I've also been there recently and the quality of the facilities/experience compared to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was night and day. Get over to Allegiant for KR next year and you will see how Wembley is not what we should aspire Homebush to be.

That is going to be ridiculous. Might as well have the tennis final at the MCG.
If Sydney had a Wembley (edit after reading above post - maybe Nou Camp) type stadium there is no way Rams would go play this game in Melbourne. They would be playing it in Sydney.

you seem to lack the basic understanding of design and that a 60k stadium will always be more 'intimate' than a 90k stadium. Wembley was awesome and we sat mid tear 20m line both times we've been to the new one and had great views. Back there again in October for the Ashes.

You suggesting they build Accor to 60k so it can be as intimate as allegiant and tottenham? Like I said to Wb add another 30k and you are further away, as Scotty said, you canna change the laws of physics!

Yep I'll be at Allegiant!

Where have I posted making Homebush 60k? You're drifting into your old habits of responding to answers you want to again!;) Do better.

Wembley was arguably out of date before they finished building the place. The absence of a roof was a massive error (see Allegiant and Sofia). The quality of the pitch which has been relaid countless times and it's ability to consistently hold hard-wearing, and a variety of, events on the surface week in week out is questionable (see retractable pitches at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Santiago Bernabeu). Wembley is cavernous and when not full which provides a poor, soulless atmosphere. The bottom tier is far too big which adds to this and also an issue for a stadium without a roof where there is a lot of rain like Sydney. A smaller bottom tier, with higher tiers far closer to the pitch is more desired (see Millennium Stadium).

I haven't mentioned the concourses, surrounding facilities, transport, etc. All elements of the Wembley Stadium experience which should be far better.

All these features could be accommodated for an 80k-90k stadium. Don't let your hard on for Wembley blind you from the obvious fact that whilst Wembley is a good stadium, it isn't the pinnacle which is what the NRL should be pushing for Homebush.
