WWF really perfected the good guy vs the heel. I used to loath guys like Mr Perfect, Ravishing Rick Rude, Honkeytonk man and Ted Dibiase. Some of managers did their bit well too. Jimmy Hart and Bobby Heenan were great as asshole managers.

McMann's banter with Ventura always made a night of WWF Superstars of Wrestling even better.

In NZ, as you'll all know, we had On The Mat in the Seventies. As a kid I remember it was huge. King Curtis, Samoan Joe, the Zulu (who was actually a Fijian, but, you know) and Rick Martel.

Ernie Leonard and Steve Rickard did the commentary.

Then wrestling disappeared for about eight years on NZ TV, until that mind-blowing night I mentioned in late-'88, which brought wrestling to another generation, along with those that loved On The Mat.

Another bit of NZ wrestling history is that we were mainly introduced to Hogan when he was in Rocky III. So, when Wrestlemania was first shown to us we knew who he was.

Even though we have a "soft" run home, it just goes to show that these cellar dweller teams can pop up at any given moment and cause an upset.

Just managed to tune in and see the last 2mins of that after sorting the kids, priceless seeing little Reecey boy blow it again, that’s 2 games he has blown for them. Panthers to slip up into 5th and be the chasing side by the looks of it

I still remember the day I was told it wasn’t real. I was 12 and my form 2 teacher took a disturbing amount of glee in telling us our heroes were acting. Still hate the wanker for it.

Secrets revealed documentary in the early 90s was my heartbreak moment lol but after accepting this truth I admired the stunts and always enjoyed the kayfabe story arcs. I think I was the last kid in my hood to discover this stuff was all an act.

Hasler's 500th game as a coach, and Foran's 50th for the GC, ends happily. I heard Hasler ramped up his shower strategy, it was a towel-flick in the sheds if they lost.

Furthermore, it's Hasler's 24th out of 33 against us and his 8th from 11 at Mt Smart. He canes us.

...and here come the Panthers right behind us for fourth spot. They're currently dishing it out to an outclassed Wests, 28-2.

They’ll play finals, but Sharks are my disappointment of the year so far. Not many injuries, unaffected by Origin, but just can’t seem to put really good performances together consistently. Souths are absolutely decimated, and they haven’t been able to put a try on them 35mins in
