I recall Starling’s debut for us.

The commentators suggested Nathan Brown was disbelieving of the expertise of all other judges by thinking Starling‘s stature was capable of thirds, then seconds, and then NRL.

The kid came off the bench late, then threw a ball (his third or fourth) from dummy half, which was the same quality of one Connor Watson drawing a fullback at pace, leading to an ”intercept”, length of the field, try.

Went to Canberra months later, and developed shortly after into a quality, established NRL 9.

PS. I rate Brown slightly more than O’Brien. That is an indictment beyond all sensabilities.

Starling is also only ok and not a great 80 min player. In fact he's problematic at 80. He's good for 50 a game and not a game manager either. That's what Fogs is for.

Came here looking for some Toohey insights that would see Mooney headed anywhere else
Seems like he's gonna be a Knight... good signing, sadly.

But i reckon you guys can forget about Starlo. I am very confident whatever hooker you guys might be talking to, it's not him.
We re-signed him AFTER signing Brailey and extending Pattie, who is the future sooner than later.
Starling has become a very important part of the team, which is why we were initally OK with letting him walk and then decided to re-sign him post Brailey.

Brailey is i think odds on to be one and done and head to the Bears.
He'll play a lot of cup behind Pattie and Starling unless injury hits. Reckon if the club had its time again they'd not sign him at all, given the hindsight of Starling's form.

From Toohey’s Twitter he seems to think it’s a lot more likely Mooney will want to go to a Sydney club given that’s where he’s from, so you might still get your wish lol.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I know. I didn’t name him thinking he’s a world beater, just that he’d be the sort of player a club like us could realistically get and I could see the Raiders thinking they might have too much $$ invested in hookers. Players like Grant, B Brailey, Egan, etc. are obviously pipe dreams for us.

Mooney
?
J Saf
Lucas
McEwen
Crossland

2026 starters potentially.

As for the contracted dummy half, O’Sullivan brought Wayde Egan to the Warriors, so it could be him. The players he has brought to us so far are ones he has rated for a while (Brown) or ones who he signed at his previous jobs. It would be some coup. He has it all.

Wayne Egan is a gun and would be an excellent signing if we could get him. Put him in at 9 and our spine starts looking really decent for next year.

You’d think that Mooney’s priority would be to get regular NRL games. We’re a club that can offer him that with a lot of certainty. Arguably his best chance at regular NRL appearances imo. Is it worth moving back to Sydney and being in reserve grade at a strong club? I’d say maybe the Dragons would be the club in Sydney that could offer him similar NRL prospects.
