NRL Rd 27 2025 - General Non-Warriors Thread

Well here we are...the final round of a fascinating season. It's a bit emotional really, as we've all been through so much together, already. We know there's more drama to come.

My favourite personal memory was drinking lager in a Hobart hotel room, as the Warriors held off a late-charge from the Cowboys. It was a tremendous win, we were tough that night, and us guys here were tougher having to watch it.

Tonight, I really want a full-strength beer again, in order to get through the Broncos playing Melbourne, at full strength. It was a godsend having the Storm walloped last week, as Bellamy is not like a past Warriors coach, who might reward his transgressors with a week off. Shibasaki found a way to sit it out though, Walsh tried too, but failed to get flushed.

Friday, farewell DCE, oh and Jazz. Brookie loved you both, sort of. Our guys aren't there to stand by watching. There's important work to be done, Webby hasn't trained a bunch of Council workers. His guys put in, it's what's kept us alive all year.

Easts have one last shot at their great rivals, the Rabbitohs, before a Bondi summer beckons. Oh, but they can play on next week too! What do you reckon the party boys will choose?

Saturday, does a Dragons upset over Penrith push the Panthers our way? Dessie's last possible NRL gig is against Benji's Tigers. The spoon is in play, but not for Wests this time. Is that progress?

Then, the big one, full-strength sides, like an IPA craft brew, 6.5% alcohol (or it feels that way), the Bulldogs head over to Homebush. Twenty years since the Cronulla Riots too! In 2005 I sat on the fence, not believing what I was seeing, but safe and sound in Manly. This year it's all Bankstown! Go the blue and white, and their Lebanese drummers.

Sunday, we'll know our fate, and our date. We won't play Redcliffe, if they've sneaked into the eight. Canberra are a light brew this week, so it's really up to the Roosters to decide the Dolphins' finals hopes. We end with the Eels, strong now, but weak most of the season. It's another failure in one of rugby league's traditional heartlands. Ironically, their coach is safe, unlike Newcastle's, so they've done something right.

Enjoy.

Is it any surprise to see Brisbane and Melbourne in a Thursday night final round match, giving Melbourne an eight-day turnaround into finals and Brisbane nine? For the same club that consistently has away games in Magic Round at Suncorp?

Or am I being unreasonably cynical...

Odds on Gus mentioning the Dogs' 6-day turnaround for 2 v 3 compared to Melbourne's 8, plus the fact the Dogs have to travel?

Pretty reasonable 8-day turnaround (likely) for us, although we'd love it to be 9 and not crossing the Tasman.

Have you been listening to 100% footy lol, Gus was questioning why every single year, Brisbane and Melbourne get the Thursday night in the final round !

I’m being taken away this weekend by the wife, no idea where, but will probably be off the grid, so I’m not in hiding after the Warriors have dusted Manly up if I’m not around lol

And in doing so you've craftily set the Warriors up for a massive fail.

Enjoy the break. Footy is stressful! I hope you're supporting us next week.

You watched Manly and Warriors last week?
Tommy's hammy would have to give out in warm up or first 5mins for Warriors to have a chance.

Bloody hell, straight to the yellow button to switch commentary as soon as I heard it was Inane and Gronk in the box but Sky haven’t got it working tonight !

These are the 2 sides I’d least like to see win the comp

Only solace I can take from Brisbane being top 4 is how idiotic Buzz continues to make himself look

Yeah mate will be, and everyone playing Melbourne or Brisbane. Canberra were the first Winfield Cup side I supported too

Is a bit strange coming onto this forum at this time of year and not seeing the “who are you supporting on the finals” thread

Slater: 'the Broncos are aware of the threat Coates poses in the air'.

Ya reckon?

Anyway, Melbourne look disjointed. Bellamy was absolutely correct in getting these guys on the park. This can't be week one of the finals for them.

6-0, Brisbane. 23 mins gone.
...Storm score through Katoa. He loves scoring tries. 6-4.
