I think we all agree after everything that’s being reported in the last week that Lomax at very best will only survive another season at our club at worst he’ll probably be gone by November, but this really does blow my mind, not the fact that he’s about to away from his contract, I mean it’s not as if he’s the first or won’t be the last guy to do it but he’s about to walk away for something that doesn’t exist and may not exist until the regular season next year….i mean wtf is he going to do for 12 months without playing any competitive sport?
That's the thing that I can't get my head around... The competition isn't even greenlit yet and even if it does go ahead it's not supposed to commence until October.
I don't begrudge Lomax chasing mega bucks but it just seems crazy to me. I assume they are waiting for confirmation firstly that it is 100% happening then will sit down with Parra and work something out. It will likely go above Parra though because you aren't just moving club you are moving do a different code which is a competitor to us... PVL has been pretty stern with his warnings around it.
What seems to me what will likely happen will be Lomax to commit for 2026 with us and then join R360 in 2027 which apparently will be the first proper season of the competition (2026 is a shortened format).
One thing that always stuck with me with Lomax... I remember after he first debuted at the Dragons one of the Footy Shows did a puff piece on him and Jess Sergis who he was dating at the time. He was only 18-19 then and I clearly remember him mentioning that he planned in the next 5 years to play Origin and for Australia so he would have done everything in the game by the age of 24 then he was keen to try and play Cricket professionally as apparently he was a gun junior at that also and had to pick between the two sports.
I remember thinking how cocky is this little shit, does he think its going to be that easy? I've never seen the footage resurface and never heard him mention it again but he was dead serious in the interview
He's now in his mid 20s and played Origin and for Australia, not going to be Cricket but not far off what he predicted.
