I thought Turuva was ordinary, the few times he payed FB for us, this season?
He's apparently performed well there, so says the Panthers forum, but gee Tm, it's hard transitioning from wing the fullback in a foreign team.
In a pinch, he could improve in that position, but only if we had to use him there as he's one of the better finishing wingers in the NRL.

I read something on Facebook that shed a bit more light on the situation. Bula switched management after his current contract was signed, so this means that Issac Moses doesn't get a dime from either the 800k player option, or 900k club option. However, if both parties scrap the option and Bula signs a new contract (starting 2027 when the option would have been), then Moses gets his commission for it.

Apparently this whole thing is agitation by Moses to scrap the option and sign a longer term contract on overs. The club want to keep Bula but 900k a year on a long term deal is ridiculous. I think the club is weighing up whether he is worth 800k a year, and signing him up long term on that.

Whatever happens, I hope they come to an arrangement that works out for everyone.
Benji and the clubs hatred and contempt for Satan is next level to the point where it complicates dealing with any of his players.

I’m notoriously stingy with players. My offer is $700 max. That’s what I think he’s worth at the absolute top.

And every time he says he wants more, I cut a $20k from the deal.

We’ve been bent over too many times.

IM is a bullshitting cheating grub. You want him as a manager, then it reflects badly on you.

At any rate, sadly we are changing deck chairs on the Titanic with our current coaching crew. They couldn’t get us into the 8 with the Samoan squad. We’d be better off finding a coach whisperer for them before worrying about greedy players!

Look at Reece Walsh, you can’t tell me he doesn’t leave Bula looking like Dean Lawrie on his best day.

Bullas not the preferred option at fb..he’s not staying if it’s $900k …esp with Luai on 1.2ish forever....Turuva is very average at fb. certainly nothing at all special ..or special enough for the position. Bulla ought to be on 6 at the most unless he bought some serious leadership to his game like all the highly paid fullbacks. Or at least most

The thing about Garrick is that he can handle most backline positions.

Reasonable defender and a good goalkicker.

I think we were looking for a lot of composure from JL that didn’t quite eventuate as planned, but some solid players around him would help.

And with some brutal honesty, the odds are that Benji is going to throw our injury susceptible players in early in search of a big start to the season.

And being injury prone and so forth, it impacts on how players manage their game.

On the other hand, Garrick just keeps motoring on. Hes a long haul player.

Plus he’s played with some of our players before.

I just think we should pick up the phone and suss him out.

Gus is forever signing and discarding players like cards. He hasn’t jagged the formula yet, but as a process, depending on the matter, it’s good to be agile in these critical matters.

The Galvo run, it’s going to take Gus a couple years to determine whether it was the right call.

Bula in a tryfest but to be fair it wouldn't have happened in the NRL, not so early when there is no fatigue. Just very slack D.

Just depends on how all the narratives pan out. Too early to be getting excited about things.
Our CEO said next year is set.
Best to hold on to that until at least breakfast time tomorrow 😂

Like Richo’s promise of nine full blooded juniors in first grade by 2026.

That was one of his best!

But full credit to him from refraining to call this season as the best in our long and esteemed history.

It would have been very difficult for him to hold back. Respect that he controlled himself.

Popping those corporate box pills has calmed him down a lot this year.

I agree with you except this.
Fair enough.. Though $600,000 is still a lot of money.. That Bulla asked for $8-$900,000 when he couldn’t even pass a ball on the run shows the Galvin type hype that surrounded him early on..he’s better now but he can still be patient like everyone else. Be interesting to see what other clubs will pay.. it might be a reality check for him? A dominant voice would help

Yeh I get it. Maybe we should start calling it an Alternative Narrative, contract talks prior Nov 1 that is....😂

I think a good litmus test for any player who wants big boy money, is to imagine throwing him into origin for the third game, at one all

I'm afaid it's the trend, managers are the problem. The only way to fix it is to make it an apprenticeship system so they can't say restriction of trade.
This sounds dumb but it's the only way. The other way is for the NRL to show some and sort out the contract debacle...and of course you not only have greedy managers but also the RLPA to satisfy.
It's all about making players into men before they grow hair down their, like playing SOO as you said.
Now that Bula has gone on a try fest in rep footy doesn't help us.
He scored early against crap D but still its on his resume.

I assume this is the issue. We are probably paying him overs unless he has a burner of a year next season if we choose to exercise our option to retain him. The thing is it's only for one year.

If not he goes to market and we have to see if we can compete with the market to retain him.

My assumption is that the club are trying to lock him in longer term but not on 900k. If he stays on 700k due to exercising his option I think that is a good deal for us. It's probably fair for him as well but with Moses there.

Galvin got his money, Stef got his money, I think Bula has performed better than both of them and it's not close.

It’s part of the coaches and management job to convince players to get on the bus and accept a lessor deal on promises of club success.

We need our leaders in the playing group to step up and help with the process.

Gal was instrumental in getting the sharks Harold Holt premiership side together. One on one discussions with targets and obviously in retention.

And I belt on about extra legal ongoing benefits for players post-career.

I hope we have that covered. I’m not suggesting it’s easy. So far as i know, we don’t have a massive recruitment team.

Yeah but why compare him to Walsh? ...walsh has had half of a great season. How about Ponga?..1.4 apparently to give the knights a game dominant effort if and / or when the mood strikes. Bula was one that has improved a lot this year...particularly with his involvement in attack. We've gotta string at least 2 or 3 seasons together with the same spine... IMO his progress justifies gambling a few hundred k
*Having said that...totally convinced that Moses is hard at work to move him to "his" contract somewhere else and will ensure that "his client" Bula gets weary of the constant drama that will come if he stays
