Mate the blokes an idiot but you gotta laugh the way he lead union up the path, last week they were crowing "two clubs table offers for Lomax" and the next we hear of him he`s trying to sign with the Storm. f**king priceless, completely blanked them.Let him rot and be a lesson to all
Lets be honest, they couldn't offer him anything like what he can get in the NRL.Mate the blokes an idiot but you gotta laugh the way he lead union up the path, last week they were crowing "two clubs table offers for Lomax" and the next we hear of him he`s trying to sign with the Storm. f**king priceless, completely blanked them.

'Unlevel playing field': Former Hurricanes CEO opens up on club's woes
Former Hurricanes CEO Avan Lee has opened up on the challenges facing the Wellington club and the realities of player contracting, offering insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of Super Rugby Pacific in New Zealand.www.rugbypass.com
Its crazy they operate on the basis that a crowd of 33% capacity is acceptable.Interesting ,
very different model to the Warriors & any other NRL franchises starting over there if that happens.
Through central distribution from the NRL ( the grant) the wahs get around $20 million AUD .. $22 mill NZD before they sell a membership or ticket
In 2028 , this will increase to closer to $30 million.
wow
Im sure they'd want more then 33% of their grounds filled , certainly because after sponsorship , thats the only source of income for them after salaries are paid for by the NZRU , but thats where they are atm. The fact the Wahs get double what NZ super rugby teams get in salary cap payments & possibly triple in 2028 is huge for targeting talent over there. Its crazy they operate on the basis that a crowd of 33% capacity is acceptable.
Salary cap is smaller than expected but top NZ rugby players have excellent third party deals as you'd expect.
$2 million dollar loss is nuts though, it's clear super rugby isn't the asset they project it to be.
So you're hoping R360 gets off the ground?R360 has as much chance of getting off the ground period ...as I do of bedding Sydney Sweeny
I think it's a bit of a fools errand trying to directly compare salary caps between NRL clubs and Super franchises in NZ. The reality is there isn't really a cap in Super. If there was a real one, and it was the one the failure of a CEO mentioned in this interview, then the teams would never be able to run out All Blacks. Its crazy they operate on the basis that a crowd of 33% capacity is acceptable.

A lot of NRL stars also make good coin through 3rd party deals. Despite being their top sport over there it is actually not going that well in recent times. If the NRL continues on its current trajectory, it will own the Pacific in 10 years time and will be a serious competitor to Union in NZ. Australia is already a lost cause for Union and will never recover to where it was in the early 2000s.I think it's a bit of a fools errand trying to directly compare salary caps between NRL clubs and Super franchises in NZ. Super is just a component of a NZ players contract, for the younger ones coming through it's a larger component, but for the bigger names it's a smaller component.
