The St George Illawarra Dragons have called a press conference for 9:45am on Monday morning.
Chairman Andrew Lancaster and CEO Tim Watsford will address the media on what is expected to be the future of head coach Shane Flanagan.

After seven rounds in the 2026 season the Dragons sit last on the NRL ladder with an 0-7 record and Flanagan’s future has become increasingly untenable in recent weeks.
If, as expected, Flanagan is removed from his position he will become the second NRL head coach to depart in 2026 following the sacking of former Manly boss Anthony Seibold after Round 4.

St George Illawarra’s 30-12 loss to the Rabbitohs on Saturday was the club's 11th consecutive first-grade defeat including the back end of the 2025 season.
Speaking to the media after Saturday’s loss, 60-year-old Flanagan cut a forlorn figure who seemed resigned to his likely fate.
“I get to work every day and all I can do is do my best to prepare the players the best I can,” he said.
“If it doesn’t work and they decide to make another decision, well I’ve just got to live with it.”
A former premiership winning coach with Cronulla in 2016, Flanagan took over the reins at the Dragons in 2024 and has a 19-35 record from his 54 matches in charge at a win rate of just 35 per cent.
273-game Dragons legend and current South Sydney assistant Ben Hornby is considered a front-runner for the long-term coaching position, however in the short-term assistant Dean Young may well take the reins with the support of Michael Ennis who only linked with the joint venture club in the off-season.

You don’t think the situation is that hopeless already?

Deadset 10 blokes need to go from this squad and there is no one I. The market to replace them with and the talent pool is only going to get thinner.
Look I agree its a big world of suck right now but what im saying is you dont want to give the kids the keys too early and ruin their development. Key changes are needed and the young talent eased in.

Its tricky stuff

Flanno’s a good metaphor for the club.

Always deflecting. Always excuses. Always doing the same shit on repeat.

Nothing changes til that does.

Who the f**k would want to coach this squad?

I will tip Kade Reed to spark us up though. And whoever it is, has to play the kids. Has to. The plodders can be the backups.

Place is cancer. Only the youth can turn this Boomer f**k up of a joint around.
Well technically, SF is not a Boomer.
You're being harsh on boomer's Ronnie.

And I'll coach them.

If sacked, hopefully doesn't effect Drinkwater coming.
Hopefully LPT gets more game time and is happy to stay.
He ran for more metres than Guler and Lawrie

Message to the village idiot " Im Hornby".
The above is my response to should flanigan be sacked immediately. You must have missed it.
The ammount of time you devote to researching forum members old quotes begs the observation. You must be a real pest to be suspended from kindegarten so much.
Why do you guys keep responding to the fxckwit. Ignore him and he disappears like magic. Respond to him and you keep him posting. It is your own fault he is still here. We could have been done with him if you JUST DON'T RESPOND. It is pretty simple really. He thrives on your responses. IGNORE HIM

How on earth do they come to a press conference like this and not have a choice made on an interim coach.? Amateur hour. Lancaster was thoroughly unimpressive in that press conference, avoiding questions and blaming the media. Part of the problem.

I would say they know...just not wanting to announce at presser...Does it mean that Young is interim and they don't want to cop more Flack....I really hope it isn't Young.

They also could be talking to Haran's replacement...Hopefully they bring richo in....

Positives...Both Flanno & Haran are Gone.

Yep Lancaster and Watsford looked as if they had caved to the media pressure, like the people they perceive as bullies in the media has forced their hand.

Shows what shithouse leadership we have at the club, we deserve much better as supporters and members.

Anyway f**k off Flanagan and Haran, thanks for nothing, see you never 👋👋👋👋

OK, no dancing on the grave folks, just let the man disappear off into retirement satisfied he is a premiership winning coach. It just did not work out. I wish him and his family well. Well done to the club for also seeing Haran out the door. There are green shoots appearing and this next appointment is super critical. Today's call should also see Kyle Flanagan eased out of the conversation as well. All in all, a very good day for the club.
