Except they'd lose a fortune due to the lack of corporate facilities.

Easts and co. would be better off requesting mostly away games (I think you'll find clubs like Penrith, Manly, etc. will have mostly home games due to being uneffected) and playing the one or two home games they get in that period at the SCG.

There's also a fact alot of our good boutique venues, Parramatta, Ballymore, etc. will be booked by international teams for friendlies before the cup, as the major stadia will be out of comission.

see N_P, you want RL to be shown to internationals... yet i don't want our game to be shown in small suburban grounds... if there was a compromise... like all Sydney games played out of SCG and Parra stadium, i'd still don't know where to put the Bris games... how much can Ballymore seat?

I prefer timbo's suggestion.

I prefer timbo's suggestion.

Ballymore holds 27,000 with about 24,000 in seats, the rest on the hill, and most of it is quite modern.

It's an absolute beaut of a stadium, and were it not located so damn close to Suncorp, would've been ideal for an NRL expansion side in Brisbane.

This is true. It's only for a couple a months though. Maybe they can have Melbourne Cup style marquees or the like and have a carnival atmosphere. Let's face it, like the Olympics, it's going to be party time all over Australia.

I still think we put the competition on hold whilst the cup is here and have a knock out tournament to pass the time.

League will be 35 pages deep from the back of the paper whilst it's on. No point in ruining the competition IMO.

What about QE2 for Brisbane/Titans games?

I can't see why NRL can't be scheduled around the WC games. I mean the stadiums will probably be used one in every 3-5 days...just put a League match in the middle of it, i'm sure they have adequate time to change it all back. If we can't do that, they should do the following in regards to Sydney teams:
- Bulldogs, Parramatta playing out of Parramatta Stadium
- Panthers playing out of CUA Stadium
- Tigers playing out of Campbelltown, Leichardt
- Roosters, Souths playing out of the S.C.G
- Manly playing out of Bluetongue (if not used for the World Cup, S.C.G if it is)
- Sharks playing out of Toyota Park
- Dragons playing out of OKI Jubilee, WIN Stadium

I'd definately play Brisbane and the Gold Coast out of ANZ...I dunno about NQ facilities, but maybe Mackay might have a decent sized ground by then that can be used for the Cowboys. I dunno about Canberra or Newcastle either

nope....NRL clubs that play at any of the world cup stadia would have to find elsewhere to while the world cup is on....though i think you'll be lucky if Leichardt is still standing in another 10 years

RS is right. A lot of you are deluded if you think we're going to have the balls/ability to stand up to FIFA and run our event and try to steal their limelight.

ffs we can't even stand up to our own broadcasters atm.

NRL will take a backseat to the WC, and rightly so. Its the WC in Oz, a once in a lifetime event. Surely League could go 6-8 weeks without competition. And people will not give a damn about the NRL, they'll be caught up in the WC frenzy. All pipe dreams.

FFS , no one is talking about stealing the limelight of standing up to fifa.

smply trying to make the best of the situation we would be in, nothing more nothing less ( with the exception of the using the same stadiums suggestion)

I think the best thing would be to pack up shop for 6-8 weeks and be greatful for the wonderful stadium upgrades we would get.

As previously mentioned, teams will be playing friendlies and training at smaller stadiums. Expect these stadiums to get upgrades as well.

This article basically states that our bid will get some powerful backing (Italy & SA) but Sepp Blatter offers caution. But if Rudd and the FFA are serious, then they'll go ahead building infrastructure/stadia and the like as soon as possible which will help the 2022 bid.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter expressed caution about a third consecutive World Cup in the Southern Hemisphere at the opening ceremony of the FIFA Congress last night.

"Are they a realistic chance [of being a host]? Yes, but I don't know for when," Blatter said. "I was just speaking with the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Frank Lowy, and they were advocating for 2018, but 2018 will be very difficult after having been in the Southern Hemisphere and so far away. I think a continental [European host] would be better. But for 2022, it's open."

yeah, i'm starting to think this is a good idea. maybe play state of origin and a few internationals of exhibition games whilst it's on.

We couldn't possibly play origin - where we we play the games? Ballymore and Parramatta? The SCG and the Gabba? It'd be a mockery of the highlight of the league stadium.

Just to re-iterate, I don't think people realise how hardcore FIFA go on WC venues.

Not only can we not use the venues during the cup, at all, but FIFA takes over the venues one month prior to the event, in order to ensure that the pitches are rested and in top condition.

Whilst I'm sure a lot of teams would base themselves in SE Asia or New Zealand to prepare for the cup out of the spotlight, our better small venues, Ballymore, Parramatta, MES etc. will cop an absolute beating in the month leading up to the cup, as friendlies and training etc. will be going over the top - look at the last WC, all the countries based themselves in Belgium or Holland (I think we were in Luxembourg?) - places with reasonable quality stadia so they could play friendlies and train. This will lead to decent upgrades for our 'boutique' venues also, but at the same time, it would mean a very crowded schedule (if you were running Parramatta stadium, would you want 4-5 games on it in a week?) so stadium bookings will be problematic.

I don't think people realize how hardcore FIFA go on the world cup full stop,it's 24/7 for the best part of 6 weeks...

the NRL would be fighting a losing battle whatever they do..

what i'd do is either pack up for a month and have australia tour england, during our summer which would be nice or slash NRL ticket prices in half and hope for the best .

think so too

it would be a case of total rl shut down for the period.

We wouldn't have a place to even play the comp. And thats ok

This is a momentus event. RL can start later.

Actually another thing to consider is that our venues may need to be rested for longer than the 1 month period prior to the kick off due to our pitches generally being in a sub standard condition ( compared to Europe)

Possibly. Then again, the one month rule is applying to South Africa, and their pitches are hardly top shelf.
