2 Olympic Sports I'd Like Introduced

45 members + 18 associate members = 63.

Give me a link that shows the RLIF having 63 members. From what I've seen the affiliate members are included in the 45 member nations.

Yes I said more countries play handball than basketball. But my "play" I meant play. Mates down the pub don't count.

Stop using such a petty argument. I'd still like to hear how you magically decided that handball is played in more countries then basketball. At least my argument is based on facts and figures and not, 'I said so, so it must be right.'

And look at the worldwide TV ratings for the handball world championships compared to the basketball world championships - handball wins.

Again give me a link. Stop throwing out statements like that without backing them up with any proof.

If you base popularity on TV ratings then basketball would be way ahead. Basketball is massive in the US and has a huge following in China - 2 of 3 most populated countries in the world. The first game between 2 Chinese NBA players (Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian) drew a TV audience of over 200 million people in China alone (http://www.nba.com/features/yaoyi_20071109.html). I doubt a single handball match would receive anywhere near that.

i really hope rugby 7's gets in... not because im a kiwi and we would be competitive but because it would be great for the island nations like Tonga, Samoa & Fiji... it would do well for crowds... and be all over after 2 days..

you wouldnt really be able to tell who would win it... because all the big guns would be let loose... NZ, AUS, SA, GB, FRA, ARG, ITA, FIJ, SAM, TON, KEN, JAP, HKG, USA & CAN would all be pretty competitive... the creme would still rise to the top but pretty much the top 6 or so can all beat eachother...

its been a sucsess at the com games

Pole Dancing. :D

According to the IOC to qualify as an Olympic sport, an activity must be "widely practiced by men in at least 75 countries and on four continents, and by women in at least 40 countries and on three continents." In other words, participation matters.

Basketball's bigger than handball and by far the world's number 2 team sport. Volleyball, handball and cricket (think India) would probably be the candidates for number 3 depending on how you measure it, though all bigger than rugby union

They were cut because they weren't popular worldwide.
Baseball's easily a big enough sport for the Olympics (albeit only really big in the Americas and Far East) but it got cut because they don't enter the best players which makes it a joke. Soccer doesn't either, but it's a big enough sport to get away with anything

Cricket wouldn't be in the top 20 most popular team sports.
