Yes Manly buy players. So do lots of other clubs, they might not do as much of it as Manly but that is life. The game is a business nowdays and not all areas have a large junior base to draw from.

I can not think of any tbh, well besides Kennedy and Menzies but they were retiring, although I think Menzies wanted to stay but we could not make a decent offer due to signing Williams and Bailey However I do understand what you are getting at. Do not forget we had been pretty ordinary for a long time so our players contracts were not inflated (excluding a select few), the test will be what happens in the next 2 seasons with players coming off contract.

well, they're probably the only club to have improved their players stocks every year for the past 5 years, now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the sallary cap didn't allow that to happen??

We have improved by making 1 or 2 big name signings each year and buying discards or fringe first graders and getting them to perform. Do you think we paid big bucks for Matai, Robbo, Hall, Bryant etc? Each season we generally have 1 or decent paid players leave as well.

Like I said the test will be in the next year or so. As for bonuses, wtf are you on about? We have been ignored in the rep scene till now, as I said that will flow on to 09 and 10.

Garts, i'll go out on a limb here and declare that your clubs dominance will continue for the next 5 years and you won't go worse than playing the gf qualifier...you can quote me on that.

and in saying all that you will NOT!! lose a player that you'd want to keep, you will probably lose the Cutherbtson's and Bani's who are on just sitting outside the 17 but you'll never lose a player within your top 17 to another club.

I remember all preseason and for most of this season all the experts on this board were saying we were crap, would miss the 8 etc etc. A team that is expected to miss the 8 must have a average roster, now all of sudden we are cheating the cap.

first of all, no one is saying that you're cheating the cap it was ge who made the off the cuff statement..;-)

secondly, to me, your team was all always going to be in the mix, except I was almost convinced that Melbourne would win it up until about 2 months ago.

Can we tell the future? You are speculating that we will cheat the cap in the future ffs, at least wait till we do not lose any of these players. If that happens fair enough to raise questions but before it even happens? get a grip.

Yes we have improved each year, but that is through smart recruitment and getting the best from our players. Ballin, Cuthbo, Hall, G Stewart, Bryant, Robbo, Williams were all no names till last year and this year.
