Thats it really. You should be very solid, taking limited risks, while still hitting the bad balls. Sweeping across the line, wild slashes outside off stump (which did come off every time fine, but its risky), clearing fieldsman and walking at the quickbowlers are not educated shots.
The positive approach is good for cricket, but there are times you dont employ it. This is the third time tests have been blown in India due to this dumb theory:
- This test
- Chasing 90 on a minefield a few years ago (Yeah it was a minefield, but we had guys caught on the boundary etc)
- 2001 2nd test , final day. We had 2 sessions to bat out , chasign 350 with 10 wickets and decided to go all out pointlessly.
