cool Sneagle im glad you get it. if any of my Dragons were involved in something like this I think i would be inconsolable!

despite they are all huge muscly guys, i think alot of female fans have some sort of maternal instinct towards their teams players. like to all my friends our teams are 'our babies'. that sounds weird to verbalise but its true.

You know I'm not entirely convinced there was any crash tackling at all.
It just seems odd that it has onlycome to light about 3 days after the alledged incident. And if there were those supposed shocked onlookers then why wasn't anything mentioned earlier and why did the initial reports only mention the altercation between the father and Stewart?
It's all very muddy.....
Does it make it any better if it is true?
Maybe in charges and possible sentence and I guess the intent behind it?
Was it a joke gone wrong? Was there mucking around (nonsexual) before hand - you know ducking and weaving sidesteps etc.... Anyway it boarders on stupidity.

I think the difference comes down to the intent and I do think (not sure) that penalties for that as opposed to outright sexual assault would be much smaller. (Just my guess only).

Look I've done silly things (including tackling a smaller male) which thankfully haven't but could have resulted in someone else's injury. At the time I considered it fun but after I realised the possible ramifications.. From age comes wisdom... (well it's bound to catch up with me sometime xxx fingers...

I do think that female fans (esp. the older ones such as myself do have a different attitude toward the players and yes I will admit I felt like crying also when this allegation was first brought to light.

Sounds a bit like animal planet.

He went to the police station for the sole reason that he has to give a statement as to his version of events.

i dont remember a thing is not a defence and may just be the worst thing he can say IF other evidence points towards something happening. As fr references etc, how would you feel if you were the girl and he got off on good character references?

Im not saying he is guilty, i dont know how many times ive said that but im staying impartial until its all out in the open.

Manly fullback Brett Stewart is at Dee Why Police station tonight, where he's being questioned over the sexual assault a 17-year-old girl on Friday night.
The Manly fullback, dressed in a suit, arrived at the police station in Sydney’s northern beaches around 6pm (AEDT) accompanied by coach Des Hasler and his lawyer.

A police media spokesman could not confirm if charges were likely to be laid against Stewart.

"I don't have any information about that," he told AAP.

The alleged attack outside his home happened after the club's NRL season launch.

Stewart, who was to be the NRL poster boy this season already faced Manly Local Court today, over the interim apprehended violence order issued by police after the incident on Friday.

It means he has to stay away from his home for at least another month.

And this:

Manly bosses will meet NRL chief executive David Gallop on Wednesday to discuss the behaviour of Sea Eagles players at their season launch which resulted in two allegations of assault.

Star fullback and NRL poster boy Brett Stewart faces sexual assault allegations from a 17-year-old neighbour while Test forward Anthony Watmough is now accused of punching, not slapping, a club sponsor.

Stewart fronted Manly court on Tuesday where an apprehended violence order against him was extended until April 7.

Police are continuing investigations into the allegation of sexual assault at North Manly on Friday evening.

Meanwhile the club sponsor who was involved in an altercation with Watmough claims the player punched him after he confronted him over inappropriate comments made towards his 21-year-old daughter.

It is a further dent to the Sea Eagles' off field reputation as club chief executive Grant Mayer and chairman Scott Penn prepare to meet Gallop to present a report on the events of last Friday.

The NRL is likely to heavily sanction the Sea Eagles with a hefty fine after concluding their own investigation.

Comments on Tuesday about Watmough's behaviour at the Wharf Bar following the club launch are unlikely to help Manly.

Neither are the thoughts of co-owner Max Delmege who claimed there was "limited" food at the function and that "in retrospect, I think our events manager picked the wrong venue."

The man alleged to have been assaulted by Watmough told Fairfax radio he confronted the player because he was harassing his daughter at the Wharf Bar.

"He punched me. It wasn't a slap. It was a punch," said Paul, who did not give his surname, from P&T Structural Landscaping.

"He was just being ... I don't want to get into the wording. It was not very nice.

"She is a young 21-year-old, very attractive lady and she did not need to be spoken to the way he was speaking to her.

"He was just very rude and that's what sparked me to get up and then he hit me."

Paul said he told Watmough to calm down and sit down but "he just wouldn't take that as an answer".

Watmough had an apprehended violence order taken out on him in June 2007 by his ex-girlfriend.

That AVO was removed four months later as both parties reached a written agreement.

Watmough's former partner Gillian Rixon had accused him of a string of violent attacks during their seven-year relationships, claims denied by the player.

While Watmough apologised to Paul for their altercation over the weekend, the club sponsor believes the Sea Eagles need to reprimand the 24-year-old Test forward.

"I think there needs to be a little bit of discipline and a little bit of reprimand, otherwise they think they can do whatever they like," he said.

Paul said he would continue to be a supporter and sponsor of the Sea Eagles, but was yet to decide whether to press charges against Watmough.

"I have not even given a formal statement yet. The police want me to. It's just something I have to think about," he said.

"At the end of the day, we'd both had a few drinks.

"I'm not holding any grudge, but I'd just like to set the record straight."

The club sponsor however supported the behaviour of the "majority" of the players at the function, adding his support for embattled star Brett Stewart who is facing sexual assault allegations from later in the evening.

"He would have to be the most delightful person I know," said Paul.

"I have never found a more nicer gentleman, he is a gentleman."

As expected both Watmough and Stewart were named in the Manly side to face the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

There had been pressure for the Sea Eagles to stand Stewart down, but the club remains adamant he will play unless charges are laid or he is not mentally ready.

Stewart's lawyer Geoff Bellew, who represented the player in court, said the AVO did not prevent his client from returning home.

"If he wants to (go home) he could, but he doesn't want to," Mr Bellew said.

"He's moved away from there."

Test star Brett Stewart arrives for police interview over assault allegations

NEWS.com.au

March 10, 2009 06:46pm
NRL star Brett Stewart has arrived at a Sydney police station, where it is expected he will be interviewed over an alleged sexual assault after the the Manly Sea Eagles launch on Friday night.

The fullback, dressed in a suit, arrived at Dee Why police station at 6pm (AEDT) today accompanied by coach Des Hasler and his lawyer.

Stewart, who was to be the NRL's poster boy this season, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl after the launch.

Earlier today, Stewart fronted Manly court where an apprehended violence order against him was extended until April 7.

Magistrate Margaret Quinn granted police a four-week extension, preventing the 24-year-old Test fullback, who appeared uncomfortable in his suit and tie and stared ahead of him throughout proceedings, from returning home.

Stewart, who was today named in the NRL team to play the Bulldogs on Saturday night, has denied the allegations.

He wouldn`t talk to her if she was unattractive in the first place.

She's 21 years old FFS, she can defend herself, and if not he can be charged.

F**king geese, both the sponsor and Watmough.

Some low-lives think that insulting and demeaning pretty women is the way to attract them. I suppose it has to work sometimes, otherwise they wouldn`t do it.
