Can Australia make is a 3-0 cleansweep?

Considering Australias debutants and inexperienced bowling attack in this series, SA have done very poorly and underachieved massively

We will most likely bring in a spinner, though I wouldnt be suprised if we stick to the same lineup and North, Katich and Clarke all bowl a lot of overs

South Africa v Australia, 3rd Test, Cape Town

Prince returns as captain for third Test

Neil McKenzie's Test career is at the crossroads after he was dropped along with Morne Morkel for the third Test in Cape Town. Ashwell Prince will return to the side as captain to replace the injured Graeme Smith and Prince will also take Smith's role as opener, alongside the Dolphins batsman Imraan Khan, who is in line for his Test debut.

Albie Morkel has a chance to make his first Test appearance having been retained in the squad, while the uncapped fast bowler Wayne Parnell has also been included. McKenzie and Morkel have paid the price for their indifferent form during this series and McKenzie also failed to have a significant impact during the tour of Australia.

"It's disappointing for Neil, especially at this stage of his career," Smith said. "It's going to be difficult for him to come back at this stage of his career to stake a claim for this position again.

"Morne is different, he's still very young. He's got a lot of learning to do about himself. The more he bowls and plays the more he'll understand his strengths and weaknesses and what he needs to do out in the middle. Morne has a great future ahead of him, he just needs to develop."

The inclusion of Prince was not surprise after he missed all three Tests in Australia due to a broken thumb and then failed to win back his place due to the strong form of JP Duminy. However, South Africa did not want to mess with their proven middle order so Prince will be thrust into the unfamiliar opening position.

South Africa squad: Ashwell Prince (capt), Imraan Khan, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Mark Boucher (wk), Paul Harris, Albie Morkel, Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini, Wayne Parnell.

Lol Prince goes from being left right out to captain of SA. Don't know if the two new options SA have brought in for Morkel will make that much of a difference striking wise but probably more economical.

For us probably best to rest Siddle although he has 9 days to recover. McGain has to be looked at or we have wasted another chance to see what he can do. And if Siddle is out Magoffin or Bollinger in.

Prince is gonna open and hasn't played a test match for ages, this should be in our favour.

Some one has to come in for McDonald imo, he didn't even bother Morkell in the second innings.

If the ball is not swinging his slow half volleys are fodder for the batsmen.

IN: McGain and Magoffin
OUT: McDonald and Siddle

Siddle may as well rest and not risk further damage to his foot with 3-4 months until the Ashes. With Hilfenhaus as the swing bowler Magoffin is the best replacement seam bowler. Playing Bollinger, Hilfy and Johnson doesn't provide much variation.

The selectors need to know what McGain is capable of in a test match before the Ashes as well and is a must to be the 4th bowler after McDonald was ineffective on days 4 and 5.

If Dougy is fit he is further up the pecking order than Geeves and McGoffin

3-0 but I don't get the desperation to drop McDonald, especially given McGain looks pretty terrible and you've won two tests already

The Effrikaaans are cooked

In addition to finding yourselves a spinner, you could do with a keeper that can do the job to a reasonable standard - Haddin is really a sub-par keeper at this level... but it looks like you'll continue to be #1 for the forseeable future, especially given the Seth Effrikaans unique ability to choke

no desperation, we just want to see our strongest team picked and imo, he is not part of our strongest team

Haddin is OK, he has dropped some true, but he has taken some pretty good ones as well, like Morkell last night

I've seen alot worse

we dont need a spinner, we got the Kat

Katich is surely only useful as a change bowler, you wouldn't want long spells

tbh Haddin is as bad as any test keeper I can recall, at least from major nations

Yeah not a fan of Haddin as a keeper.

Certainly need to give McGain a run before the ashes.

McDonald should go.

McDonald has done the job required of him, but he is always going to be behind Watson and Symonds in the pecking order as an all-rounder. 3 tests for 3 wins, picking up more than handy wickets.

If Australia want to go 4 quicks in the future then Johnson, Clark, Siddle and Hilfenhaus/Lee would be the go. Or keep North at 6 and Watson at 8 if he can ever bowl without injuring himself.

OUT-McDonald, Hussey
IN-Bollinger, Magoffin/McGain

Given it's a dead rubber, I'd rest Hussey, who has been out of sorts, bump the order up one place each with Johnson to 7 for this one match, play 5 bowlers...
