Only 11,000 at Parramatta's First Home Game

Mods. pls. don't move this thread to Crowd Watch 2009 because we Storm supporters and supporters of other teams deserve a right of reply to Loudy's thread 2 weeks ago where he rubbished Storm's
crowds saying we only got 14,000 at our first home game (where in fact it was just under 15,000)!

So where were all the Eels fans tonight? Sitting at home and watching Foxtel instead of going to the game to support their team.
One of the powerhouse clubs in Sydney, and only getting 11,000 supporters at their first home game. Very disappointing.
And in the heartland of rugby league!

At least Storm had a lot of competition in the CBD district with an NAB G/Final at Etihad Stadium, a G/Final in the basketball across the road from Olympic Park and the Kings of Leon concert also across the road.

Reasons and excuses....please feel free to list them.

They are absolutely insignificant moments in my life, not ones which I would rank in a top 10,000 but I have proved loudstrat wrong so many times, its not funny.

Louds' got no perspective, and no idea. And then he gets obnoxious and angry, and highly insulting.

I picked him for one of low intellect, and having not known him at all, I can now safely say that its beyond all doubt.

An excellent right of reply, MsStorm. Your points are razor sharp and clear, the inflection a harrowing blow on poor old loudrat.....did i leave out the "ST"? I did, well, let is stand.....Loudrat :p

Yes, should have gotten about 14k. Poor turnout.
The difference between Parra's and Melbournes, I guess are thus:

  • Poor match scheduling.
  • Poor recent seasons and a general apathy as a result
  • Playing a team that isn't well supported or is a traditional rival
  • Had a 20+ crowd at our last outing.
We don't get a sunday arvo crowd unil at least round 6 - when the current schedule expires.

Unless we collapse against Easts next week, check back to this thread at 8.30pm on Good Friday - our FNF night against St George. Following week v the Dogs at ANZ. We'll play in front of over 40k in those 2 matches.

Unlike your match against Saints, the Raiders game wasn't our biggest blockbuster.

Anyway, I'm sure it won't stop your marching down Collins St demanding we be punted.

Omg, man!

Wake up!

The difference is that they HAVE NO SUPPORTERS! = NO FUTURE, UNLIKE MELBOURNE, who have oodles of room to grow....but parra, mighty 100 year old parra....what a joke!

Get out!! Get out of the league....no one would care, hey loudrat....

a modern day sporting disgrace.

:x

And I'd guess you were there last weekend, too.

Yep, which is why criticising fans on this forum for their fellow fans not turning up to support their teams is just ridiculous... We're the ones that do.

Not that I'm trying to pretend there's nothing wrong but this crowd was actually 1k higher than the corresponding Raiders match at Parramatta Stadium last year.

See this LS, this applies to all teams not just Sydney teams!
For example Warriors, Brisbane, Melbourne.

i hate the anti sydney crap on this forum. it irks me. from storm fans and queenslanders.

for the record if anyone has ever read Errol u can see we don't exactly like the Storm. but i think their existence is great for the game and i think it's fantastic they get big crowds in an AFL dominated city. and i hope they continue to grow.

How is anything in this thread even anti Sydney?
MS created it because LS created a deathriding thread about the Storm's crowd and she rebuttled.
And if this was applying to me, how the hell have I given this impression?
It seems, not being part of the Sydney crowd bagging out Melbourne or making excuses for poor crowds means you're anti Sydney...

Then why did you say you liked LS, who would like Storm out of the competition and constantly finds joy in highlighting any negativity he can toward their progress in Victoria:? ?

Very good post Ms Storm.

Eels fans have no excuses.

This team is no longer the brand in used to be and the thought of a blue and gold army is a myth nowadays.

Parra stadium used to be 27k capacity, now it's 20k and for good reason.

A Parra supporter rang up the zorba show and used the V Festival and Earth Hour as excuses for the poor crowd:lol:

Oh ok then, well there's some crackers:lol:

Yeah - But remember that goes both ways.
Look in any thread with Knightmare or Johnsy...

A Parra supporter rang up the zorba show and used the V Festival and Earth Hour as excuses for the poor crowd:lol:
LOL Earth Hour, they can't be serious?!

11,000 k is bad despite any excuse, there shouldn't be any excuses.
If Parra ends up getting 40 k next that still does not validate the poor crowd the week before.
What is ideal is good consistent crowds everywhere in RL because the fluctuating of crowds is probably why NRL fans are so harsh about crowd figures.

I just want to say that I am not complaining about any clubs crowds. They should be fortunate for those who can afford to go to the football these days. We are in a recession and NSW has been one of the hardest hit due to their incompetent government. People are losing their jobs almost every day. People are struggling with paying mortages and putting food on their tables let alone paying a fortune to go and watch a game of football. Putting it mildly a lot of people out west are feeling it more than the rest of the state and I don't blame them for not turning up to a game of football if they can listen to it on radio, or if they are lucky, they have foxtel. I am a Parra fan, I live on the coast and I can not afford to travel to Sydney and pay the extra in petrol which is higher on the coast and the fortune it would cost me to get in with my family. I would love to see a game live, but at the moment it is just impossible.

Parra have alot of fans, but clearly the current administration is sh*t awful at bringing them out. I hope for the sake of the game that this economic crisis;

a) Does not kill them;
b) Brushes out the deadwood in administration; and
c) Brings in people with some clue of how to create a strong supporter base.

Look at Souths and Wests Tigers (Balmain). Those fans were always there they just needed something to activate the dormant supporter base. I have little doubt that they can become a juggernaught again with the right administration. And whether I'm cheering the Sea Eagles on at Brookvale or Kawana, I know it will be good for the game.

I've observed over the years that the better Parra re going the bigger the crowds. I remember when 2004 and they were having a shocker and Fitzgerald made his infamous call about "volleyball in Iceland" in regards to Melbourne crowds and was left with egg on his face when only 7 or 8K showed up.

Parra are a good team and the fans will come back.

The game was against the Raiders... Do they even have fans? Especially in Sydney?

The game against the Dragons should get a lot more through the doors.

Oh, you poor deluded f*cktard.

Show us all where I state I want Melbourne kicked out of the comp.

While I am waiting for that gem of a post to be revealed, I'll help.

To suggest Melbourne should be punted is utterly ludicrous. Even though 98% of their fans want to decimate Sydney. The truth is, Melbourne is a fort holding an advanced position for our code, and provide a very competetive team for the locals. Anyone suggesting they should be punted should be shot.

You are only new, so I'll cut you some slack. I, too, hope Melbourne's crowds balloon. It would only be a bonus for our code if you can get Knights like stats.

Does that help?
