Why Hayne shouldn't win the Dally M Medal

The race to the Premiership is a marathon, not sprint.

It's like saying, "Oh, you know - Michael Schumacher won the Grand Prix of Monaco, but Mark Webber was leading for the first 3 laps so he was driving better."

There is not a single player in the competition who can fire for 26 consecutive weeks, plus finals and rep football. It's just too demanding a task.

As for his early season form, it wasn't half as bad as you make it out to be - at 5/8, an entirely new position for him, he made bucketloads of tackles (many of them try-savers) and actually made plenty of metres from hit-ups. He then moved to centre where he nearly scored three tries in one half of football (poor handling on his behalf being the main reason he didn't succeed in doing so).

As I said, I don't think he should win. But if he did, it wouldn't be any less deserved that Jamie Soward or Brett Kimmorley or whoever else winning it.

Race to the premiership? I thought we were talking bout the Dally M Medal. I'll go along with your F1 example. Soward has been very good for large parts of this season, including during Origin time. Its not like Soward simply played great for the first 6 or 7 rounds, then simple tailed off. As i said there is a reason his team is in with a shot to win the minor premiership while Hayne's side had to rely on an amazing hot streak to barely make the 8.

One of the main reasons i started this thread is that its annoyed me how much of the Parra streak has been attributed to Hayne, yet a guy like Fui Fui, who is in sensational form and is the guy who is setting the platform for Hayne to weave his magic, hardly gets any main-stream recognition.

We are talking about the medal, but the games they play - they are en route to the Premiership, yes? And since the race to the title is a marathon, my point is that you'll seldom see a player come out at 100% from the get-go and keep it up all season long.

I don't disagree with you. At all. I think the real success behind our surge was our foward pack - they collectively stood up.

But the reason - the real reason - why Jarryd is getting so much kudos lies in our 6 and 7. When you look at them, you see two blokes who, combined, probably have about 30 Frist Grade games' worth of experience. Mortimer has the raw talent, sure. But Robson has been attacked by all and sundry. And so Anderson asked Hayne to take the reigns and be more instrumental in attack to let our 'rookies' develop at a better pace. And since then he has been pretty good.

As I said, I, personally, don't buy into this whole "Jarryd Hayne is the best" talk. He's great, no argument. But what about Grothe, who runs as hard as a forward and makes a tonne of metres every time he plays? Luke Burt, who has scored 99 points in 7 weeks? Fui and Hindmarsh?

Actually, just on Fui - I get annoyed when people say he's in great form and has been for the past two months. The guy has been doing what he's been doing this year for three years.

Can't argue with that, you definitely follow the great man closer than i have over the years. However i do genuinely believe his ball skills have improved significantly in the last year or two. Correct me if i am wrong.

You're right - he's improved his grip on the ball, his dexterity and his control to the point where he can accurately offload with one hand now. Before he used to throw it back with both arms.

But in terms of his running game, which all of a sudden people are taking notice of, he's done it for years. I shudder to think what our attack would have been like in years gone by without Fui to carry our pack in attack.

I went thru all the games from round 16 onwards and from my calculations it will still be close between JT and Hayne and that was working on hayne scoring max points in the last little win streak that parra has been on

it should come down to this weekends games

I got 29 points for hayne and 28 for Thurston

but that is only an estimate

the way the journos score the games wendell could win it

More importantly he's fixed up his defence. He had a few high shot issues and spent a lot of time on the sidelines, but the coaching staff sorted him out, and he has improved out of sight.

Ok, you got it all, here;

1. How many rugby league players have run 100 metres in a first grade match?
2. Name every player who has been a Tiger and a Parramatta Eel.

Go.

I just gave you two questions. You're already pussying out of them, you won't leave the forum if you lose either.
Besides, you're too fun to have around here.

Which gameshows?
Obviously, you have no proof of being on one, don't you.
FFS I've done a TV quiz, it's not much of a bragging right.
