Expansion, where and when??

I am not doubting the fact there are some very passionate supporters on the CC, I am doubting whether there is enough of you. If it was still the NSWRL I could not find fault with a CC team but while we only reach just over 50% of australia I do not see the strategic value of a CC side.

10 or 11 years ago, rugby league's necxt big move was all about teh Central Coast. It was the growth area, rugby league heartland, even that idiot Gallop was saying "fish where the fish are".

The Bears were lied to about NSO and told to relocate, cotributing millions to teh stadium etc etc.

Since then, suddenly Gold Coast is the new expansion area, and now you question CC etc etc.

It's these sort of approaches that confirm that rugby league is run by dinosaurs and agenda - and it makes other codes laugh at us.

AFL have a massive challenge to establsih a new GWS team and a Gold Coast team - but they're prepared to put up the fight.

The CC Bears continues a fight after over a decade but Gallop, CRL, club CEO's are all fighting against pure logic and making every excuse against a CC Bears team.

It makes rugby league look so amateurish - the childish, greedy behaviour that soccer and AFL stopped doing years ago.

From some Brisbane locals I know -Brisbane Broncos are dead set against another Brisbane team in the NRL and will block any attempt for another Brisbane team to enter the NRL.

As for the Central Coast their population is growing all the time. Majority of the locals are league fans and will support a team of their own. Many North Shore supporters will support the team and other fans that have been lost to the game e.g Wests and Balmain supporters who have no interest in Wests Tigers.

The true Manly football fans will enhance a derby that gets the blood flowing. I cannot forget the 41-8 floging we gave to Manly and at the moment I just want another Bears vs Manly derby in the NRL. A Bears vs Newcastle will also be a huge game (if the Knights get through the Wicks drugs drama - any more Knights players involve then it could have major problems for the club)

can you blame them??? this rl city of 2 million cannot fit 2 rl teams. impossible. would kill off the broncos for sure, but we don't mind having the AFL lions or qld dreds... :x

The move to the CC was a bold move by the bears that should of paid off but it didnt and there are bigger fish to fry now. We have two cities of over 1m people they should get teams first before a city of 300k.
6 games is enough for the south coast with a similar poulation to you.
You have 10 teams within a couple of hours of you, giving you access to well over 100 games a year plus 5 on your doorstep

Difference between RL and AFL expansion:

People of WEST SYDNEY and GOLD COAST want an AFL team. FACT.
People of PERTH and CENTRAL COAST don't want an NRL team there either. NRL forces teams on new locations and pretends they are rugby league areas when they are really yawnion/AFL Heartland. FACT.

Ironic thing is that a CC Bears would probably be stronger and bigger than 1/2 the existing Sydney teams. Unfortunately the NRL has, imo, 4 places in teh league left. i can;t see them ever wanting to go above 20 teams. That means there are only 4 spots to be dished out over the next few decades. The NRL know that another NSW team isn't going to help in the long run, they already have saturation in NSW. Bears best hope is for an existing NSW team to relocate to another part of the country or go under and free up a NSW slot.

well being from queensland most people couldnt give 2 sh*ts about another afl side, but i guess there is enough interest due to the large population in sydney for another team but i believe there is only enough interest in these areas to support one team short term.
Perth and Adelaide could quite easily support league teams due to there population base, dont think they could supportmore than one team but there is definetly room for teams in these towns.

Tool, who the hell in the Gold Coast wants an AFL team, didnt that friggin Premier get a voter backlash because she devoted millions to Cararra?

And I live in WS, its not that we dont want and AFL side, no one here watches AFL to even want one.

In the mean time, we have Perth, the CC, Central Qld and Wellington starting up their own bid, where as the AFL GC and GWS sides have been developed and entirely funded by the AFL itself.

I love the idea of a second team playing out of Suncorp Stadium.

My question is, what should the team be named as far as location is concerned?

West Brisbane ?????
North Brisbane ?????
South Brisbane ?????
Ipswich Jets/?????
Logan Brothers/?????
Brisbane City ?????
South Queensland Crushers
or simply the Brisbane ?????

I like the idea of the Brisbane ?????. There are many teams sharing the one city around the world. e.g. New York Giants/Jets, L.A. Lakers/Clippers, Manchester United/City, etc..

I don't think the people of Ipswich or Logan would want their team to play out of Brisbane.

South Brisbane would probably be the best in my opinion, because of the pre-existing rivalry between Brisbane north and south of the river.
