The Origin Bolters Thread

QLD has a lot of top-notch talent, but lacks depth everywhere except the halves (and prop forwards too I suppose).

What about this scenario - if Slater is injured, which fullback takes his place? cutie is playing AFL and Matty Bowen will be recovering from a second serious knee op in three years. And even in 2009, Bowen was a very very pale shadow of his 2007 form.

Would we consider someone like Hodges or Inglis at fullback instead, replaced by Willie Tonga? Or would someone like Zillman come into calculations?

TOlman for NSW for sure. Certainly helps that he's in good form, played evry game last year and his club coach is also NSW origin coach.

Nice of Roy to give him a talk up in the paper... the hard head from Hat Head! LOL!

sam burgess for nsw, qld pick whoever they want so we should too....

in all seriousness id go for someone like josh dugan or tim moltzen, if the tigers have a great start to the year moltzen could be a contender for the utility bench spot.

Luke Douglas, Aiden Tolman for NSW.
Dave Taylor for QLD.

Can you imagine David Taylor, Greg Inglis and possibly Lote Tiquri attacking down one side of the field for Queensland this year ... with maybe Jamie Lyon trying to stop them.

Darius Boyd would be more likely at fullback.

Moltzen in a few years is a chance. Too many people in front of him right now. Give him a year to make a major name for himself imo.

Kenny or Taylor as a bolter.

Kenny in an "undermanned" Broncos pack could have a big year or needs to.

From what I saw of the Broncos last season, Kenny was the best forward all season for them. Sure, Thaiday is always good and Taylor made a name for himself (running at much smaller men on the fringes, mind). But Kenny did the hard stuff up the middle week in week out and he did it well.

Also, Darius Boyd would be a TERRIBLE choice at fullback. He's a safe set of hands, that's all. Last season he was about the worst fullback in attack in the NRL (maybe Anasta? Hehehe).

Darius Boyd was clearly the weakest player in the QLD backline last year. Decent player, and with a bit of versatility in that he can play anywhere in the backline, but there are better options IMO.

Yep, Kenny was the best prop Brisbane last year, should have been in the Australian squad.

Like who?

At fullback? Slater. If he's unavailable, I'd put Hodges or Inglis there and bring Tonga or Tate into the side.

I just don't believe Boyd offers much at fullback other than a safe pair of hands. He's not a great support player and he's not a third playmaker. Better winger IMO.

On Moltzen - very talented young player, but you're spot on. Sheens will kill his shot at a rep career. He needs to settle into one position - whether that is fullback or halfback remains to be seen. Personally I think he plays better at halfback, his positional play leaves a lot to be desired. Not saying he couldn't develop into a good fullback, just that he'll have to work on it a lot more.

Does anybody rate Carney's chances of playing Origin this year? He was one of the most impressive young NSW halves in a while before he got sacked. Or has Brian Smith's moving him to fullback wrecked any chance of an Origin appearance for him?

Didn't watch the CS game then did you?

Not a bad call on Inglis, although it'd take some adjusting at this stage. He maybe too big for fullback.

Pretty much.

Hodges isn't even available for Origin this year so scratch him.

Inglis will take awhile to adjust. He built his body so that he could play in at five eigth, to get back into playing fullback he'd have to spend an entire offseason preparing for it. Although given he is Inglis, it may only take a day or four.
