There is no right or wrong here. And Gould should acknowledge that is is a difficult situation for the NRL.

Yes the NRL is being naive but what other options do they have? Gould is being naive also.

So let us pretend I am Tood. According to Gould I get paid out and get told to go and play in QLD cup or slot in with the Raiders or the Sharks.

This does not help me secure another contract for next year? I don't think so.

What does help Tood secure another contract is playing in the Storm's top 17 for the rest of the season. This gives Tood the exposure he needs to get another job.

What about Tood's family. Just pull up stumps and move somewhere for 4 months before having to do it again for the 3rd time in 9 months?

I got retrenched 2 months ago 1 week before my 2nd child was born. I learnt about losing your job in a split second when people are dependent on you. What is paramount is finding a stable and secure envronment both financially and geographically.

In my book the NRL has done the best thing for Tood. Gould may have strapped on a boot or two, But his article demonstrates that he has not been left jobless in the wink of an eye.

You make a very good point fanool and I also hope that things work out O.K for you.

Gallop had the perfect chance to tell Gus to suck eggs and he didn't which makes him a bigger man than Gus, Gus only attacks when the game is down.
And then Gus just finishes Gallops speech with "oh thats crap!"
Grow up Gus, rugby league has changed for the better in the last 20 years, how about you change with it?
I can bet Gus would not have a go at running the game, and if he did he'd stuff it!

He is so mature isn't he!!

If Gus was running the game there would probably only be 3 or 4 teams in the comp.....

I can't stand Phil Gould, I seriously cannot understand how he can defend a team that cheated. Ok, Maybe other clubs are rorting the salary cap but for now Melbourne has been caught for doing it. The way I see it is he is happy that Melbourne cheated and it doesn't seem to bother him.

yeah but if it had of been the Roosters they beat in GF in 2007 or 2009 do you think he would have the same stance?
The only thing i agree with is that there should some exclusion for talent you brought thru the ranks maybe only 50% of thier salary counts towards and maybe it's capped at 4 players or something like that.

I totally agree with this. Have a look at our juniors we have lost because of the cap.

However, looking at it, do you think that a lot of the "higher end" prices for players we see now are a result of the over price payments to the Storm Players?

Gould was embarrsing on the footy show today, i'm not a huge fan of Gallop but he cut him of every chance and just carried on like a pork chop all round. And not once did he offer a suggestion of how we can improve things just laying blame and complaining.

yeah, some sort of exemptions for players you blood and develop IF they stay for a fairly long time - but I wouldn't go overboard with it

Of all the people on that footy show panel today, I think Matt Elliot talks the most sense - he doesn't have agendas or blatant biases and he seems to be able to see both sides of the story ...... they all went off over the issue of "how will newcastle feel if melbourne knock them out of hte finals last game?" - and I'm thinking wtf? - melbourne might not give a f**k last game and newy could get the easiest win ever - matt elliot made the logical reply that no one knows whether it will be good or bad to play melbourne the rest of the year, it could go either way, be an advantage or disadvantge, can't tell at this stage - the rest of the panel was seeing it only 1 way

For once I agree with Gould. How could the NRL not see this coming. I feel more cheated by NRL than the Storm.

Salary cap needs to go. I am absolutely convinced now. Taking away Melbourne's premierships and minor premierships will do nothing, someone will come up with an even better way to go around the salary cap.

Great. After half the clubs have gone broke, check back in with us and we'll see how you feel.

The NRL do suspect that things like this will happen, which is why they have a team of salary cap auditors.

Only if News Ltd. can afford to pump $6 million a year into the other 15 clubs as well. By the way, how long do you think Parra would last? It wasn't all that long ago we were plastered all over the news because our club was in debt $20 million.

You can't be serious, that would leave us with 4 or 5 clubs left. And Parra wouldn't be one of them.

why the hell is this the nrl's fault? maybe the salary cap does need to be adjusted but until then its a rule of the game and its a rule the storm along with the 15 other clubs agreed to abide by, then...
THEY BROKE THAT RULE
THEY COVERED IT UP
THEY LIED TO THE NRL ABOUT IT

which is why i think we need the ultimate threat if you deliberately break the salary cap and are caught you will be deregistered and thrown out of the nrl its the only way to make sure nobody is game to do it

See this is the thing. People this "clubs will go broke" attitude. Clubs will go broke anyway if all the players keep moving to union or afl, those sports get stronger and the games keep getting worse.

If clubs go broke so be it. NRL is a business not a charity.

Why was the NRL's auditors not expecting something like this to happen. How come they couldn't catch them for 5 years.

Players leave the NRL all the time, big deal there are plenty of incoming kids to take their place. Anyone see Dugan today??? Unreal talent, if they don't like league then let them go they won't be missed like Karmicheal Who.

Whatever it is. Either the cap needs to be raised considerably or got rid of. Otherwise, we're f**ked sooner or later.
