Rabbitohs Re-sign Five Players
07 May 2010

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have extended the contracts of five players today.

The Rabbitohs have re-signed front-rower Scott Geddes and back-rower Shannan McPherson for a further two years, and have extended the contracts of Shaune Corrigan and Chris McQueen for a further season as well.

The Rabbitohs have also secured the services of young gun Tyrone Ranuku-Phillips who starred in South Sydney’s Harold Matthews side this season.

Geddes, 29, will extend his tenure at the Rabbitohs to 11 seasons after signing on for 2011 and 2012. Geddes is one of two players to have stayed with the Rabbitohs since re-instatement in 2002, the other being fellow forward Luke Stuart. Geddes has played 108 first grade games to date, all in the cardinal and myrtle of South Sydney.

McPherson, 24, has also extended his contract at his junior club for seasons 2011 and 2012. McPherson has continued to develop into a consistent first-grader for the Rabbitohs over the past six seasons after making his debut in 2005 as a 19-year-old. McPherson has played 61 first grade games to date, all with South Sydney.

Corrigan, 22, made his debut in round one of the 2009 season after impressing everyone with his pre-season form. Shaune played four first grade games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Corrigan is ready to play again after having an operation for compartment syndrome after this year’s pre-season matches, and will be fighting to regain the first grade jersey he earned last year.

McQueen, 22, also debuted last season, scoring a try in his first NRL match. A knee-injury sustained last season, and re-injured this year, will see him miss the entire 2010 season, making him even hungrier to regain a first grade position in 2011.

Ranuku-Phillips, 16, represented the NSW Indigenous under 16’s side earlier this year and has been selected in the NSW under 16’s possibles vs probables match. He scored 13 tries in this year’s Harold Matthews competition across ten matches played.

Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says it is a positive that the Club has been able to retain all of these players.

“These five players see a positive future at our Club and that’s why they have elected to stay with us,” Mr Richardson said.

“Scott and Shannan are becoming a real one-two punch for us when they are on the field together and we see both of these players as part of our forward pack moving ahead over the next two-and-a-half seasons. They are in career best form and we believe they will continue to improve over the next two years. Their loyalty to the Club deserves recognition.

“Shaune and Chris both have fantastic attitudes to their football and their preparation and both are very positive influences to have around the Club. They are both young up-and-coming players who showed us their potential with their first grade appearances last year and we’re looking forward to having them back on the field as players to look out for in the years to come.”

“Tyrone is an outstanding young talent coming through the South Sydney juniors’ rep teams and we are confident that he will become a first grader with our Club in the future. He has wonderful skills, a sharp football brain and he is one player our Members should keep an eye on.”

Great signings for the Warriors. Change is as good as a holiday and i reckon these two have needed a change from the Eels to reach their best. Id be stoked if I were a Warriors fan

It definately softens the news of re-signing Luck.

Add Steve Rapira to the mix and it's been a busy couple of weeks for the Warriors. Wouldn't be surprised if there was more to come.

THE Bulldogs have received a boost with prop forward Michael Hodgson signing a deal that will extend his stay at the NRL club until the end of 2011. The 30-year-old journeyman, who has produced career-best form since joining the Bulldogs last season, will saddle up for his 14th season next year.
Hodgson has previously played for Parramatta, Canberra and the Gold Coast.
His signature is an important boost for Canterbury, who could lose homesick Test prop Ben Hannant at season's end.
Hodgson has overcome his own bout of homesickness, re-signing despite his wife living in Canberra where she runs a business.

Gareth Ellis Extends until 2013

ELLIS TO STAY AT WESTS TIGERS UNTIL END OF 2013
12/05/2010 10:24:06 AM

Hard hitting Englishman Gareth Ellis has today re-signed with the Wests Tigers for a further two seasons.

Rated the world’s best second-rower, Ellis is in his second season of a three year stint with the Wests Tigers but has agreed to further extend his deal which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2013 season.

Ellis has played 30 games for Wests Tigers and was named the club’s player of the year in 2009 in his first season in the NRL.

The announcement was made this morning at the Trend Micro Office in Macquarie Park. Trend Micro is the official back of shorts sponsor of the Wests Tigers.

“Gareth had an immediate and dramatic impact on the NRL last year,’’ said Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys.

“His efforts in 2009 saw him win the Wests Tigers Player of the Year award, earn selection in the English side for the Four Nations tournament, and the inaugural NRL All Stars side.

“Gareth is one of our most popular and professional players. He possesses a great work ethic and is a real leader both on and off the field.

“He and his partner Rachael, along with their young son Isaac, have become integral members of the Tigers family and we are thrilled with their decision to commit to us for this extended period.”
