French RL really up against it

Nope, they are just after grounds more suited to rugby (ie minus athletics track). Stade can always play at Stade de France if they need more space.

Yes. Jean Bouin is currently being reconstructed and will hold a capacity of 22k. SF are currently playing out at Stade Charlety.

By 2014 Racing Metro will play at their own Stadium "Arena 92". Capacity 32K with a retractable roof. The largest rugby specific stadium ever built in France.

The heartlands of both rugbys in France do and will always lie in the southwest.

There are not a lot of RU clubs in Grenoble.

Lyon has an interest in union as it does in league, though admittedly more so in union.

The Lyon / Grenoble region is collectively called Rhone-Alphes and can be broken down into Alpes (69), Lyonnais (79) and Drome Ardeche (48).

That area has a total of 196 RU clubs. About double the total number of RL clubs in the whole of France.

Amazing the French can't win a rah rah world cup with all those clubs. Just another example the talent league can produce from far less clubs considering the number they poach from French rl.

Suppose that nazi past truly is bad karma.

Yes they are a bunch of choking muppets. They blow hot and cold. They can beat the All Blacks in NZ with a second string and then get thrashed by oz at home with a full strenght side !.

French RL produces very little, if any, talent.

league had a shot in lyon, given the soccer boss wanted them in his new stadia he has also said quitely around the same time as the sf superleague bullsh*t. But given lyon bad state it won't happen, i think regional cities like albi, avignon, perpnignan and montpellier are where league can grow.

Care to identify all the Lyon clubs that have won the French union championship since RL started there?

The game was moved to Stade Gerland. The novelty factor comes into play here. Not to say its not a good crowd, but I think some perspective would be good.

I totally agree. 32k for a second division game is great but as you say there is also a novelty factor.

Maybe there is a pressing urgency for union to promote their game in Lyon with news soccerclub FC Lyon adding rugby league to their sports group:

Good luck with your search for a Lyon win in the rugby union championship of France since rugby league started there.

Lyon won it back in 1932, 1933.

The past is in the past. There is no reason they can't win it in the future.

The top 20 best attended club rugby games of all time anywhere are for rugby - does that mean union has no chance?

No we can't dismiss Union, Union always prospers where fascism takes root.

Mussolini's Italy, Ceacescu's Romania, Vichy France, Apartheid South Africa.

All progressive minds should be vigilant and attempt to stamp outagainst fascism, and with that Union should disappear.

It's the sort of list you would expect from Nazi collaborators. Quality.

Apologies on the Godwin's.
