And in 1998 St George changed their name to St George Illawarra because they thought they would get more fans. 12 years later they're still averaging less than bottom of the table Sydney teams.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Newtown were the first RL club formed in Australia 1908.
Ipswich formed in 1986.
1908 (103 years of history) V 1986 (25 years of history)
One club more than 4 times older/more history than the other.
How blind/biased can you be and expect to be taken seriously ?
Speaking of being biased, you're being a bit selective with the facts. Newtown only adopted the nickname JETS in 1973.
So you can say that newtown used the name for 14% of it's life in the nswrl where as Ipswich used it for 100% of it's queensland cup life. And considering the NRL under the independent commission will no longer have nswrl/arl ownership, and since newtown have no reasonable grounds to think theyll be admitted to the comp after almost 30 years out, I don't think there is a legitimate reason for ipswich to be denied using their own name.

I tend to agree.Either way it is a moot point as the Ipswich NRL bid will not be accepted into the NRL.

Still doesn't explain why no one is fighting over 'The Berries'.
You'd make a great straight man BDGS.Cause Ipswich are not called the 'berries'.
NSW and QLD cup are not professional competitions, they are semi-pro at best.
The Newtown Jets, like it or not, are an will always be part of the history of the NRL. Therefore their mascot should not and will be be allowed to be used by another team in the same competition regardless of any plan, or lack of plans, for Newtown to rejoin the comp.
:lol: The Newtown Jets have nothing to do with the NRL and never did. I'm no fan of the Ipswich bid but talk about clutching at straws.
They aren't competing in the same 'markets' for sports fans, case closed
