Redcliffe Dolphins and the Gold Coast Dolphins would also have been competing in different 'markets' for sports fans.

Ipswich wont get a start in 2013 anyway.

Redcliffe and the GC actually were, for SEQ sports fans, hence the reason Searle backed down.

Yes, they have nothing to do with the NRL. But they had a lot to do with the NSWRL, the same competition as the NRL is now. There is just a name change to show that it is a national competition and not a state one anymore.

If you want to argue that Newtown has had nothing to do with the NRL, then you are also arguing that our competition began in 1998 and when we talk about the record books we can't look back further then 1998.

Simply put, if you think our competition started in 1908 regardless of names then the Jets are apart of the history of the competition that is now referred to as the NRL.

Newtown were booted nearly 3 decades ago when concepts of an interstate competition were barely thought of. The Ipswich Jets have every right to use their own name if they enter the NRL.

So if the Bears fail to get into the comp in 2013 and Ipswich decides to call themselves the bears you have no problem with that?

Its the same thing.

Do you think they'll do that?

Burleigh for one would defeat them for the same reason Redcliffe beat the GC.

Different competitions. I think that only a moron would have been confused between redcliffe and the gc dolphins.

South Queensland Diehards, they could then have the 'Newtown' jersey anyway and pick up Valleys fans!

As both "companies" currently use the name there is no legal case for Newtown to stop them continuing to use it.

If a bid from the Ipswich area gets up I don' think they'll be playing under the Ipswich banner anyway.

err not the same thing. Ipswich are not called the Bears and so would be changing their name, they are called the Jets and so won't be changing their name, probably. If they had been called teh Ipswich Bears for the last 20 years and the NS Bears had zero chance of getting in the NRL then there would not be an issue for anyone except North Sydney who would be able to do nothing about it.

Legally 'trademark' wise not so, hence the reason the AFL paid the Richlands based Brisbane Lions Soccer Club a massive amount to take the Lions name in the market for the Fitzroy Lions Brisbeane Bears merge.

Newtown were the first RL club formed in Australia 1908.

Ipswich formed in 1986.

Ipswich Jets started up in 1982 in the QLD State League.

Anyway the next Brisbane team should be called the Diehards.

but Burleigh would have to be bought off like the Brisbane Lions Soccer Club were.

Why would a new NRL club want to associate themselves with a now defunct former NSWRL club. I doubt Newtown would sue. But from Ipswichs point of view, why not just create a new nickname not associated with a former NSWRL club. I know there history may be with that nickname, but changing their name for an NRL side should be the least of their concerns if they get to that point.

On what grounds?

No i don't think they will do that but it is the same thing.

The same thing in terms of using an already existing brand that has been previously used in the competition in the form of a last name.

For everyone out there, i am sorry but the NRL is the NSWRL. Only the name has changed, is that a good thing? idk but while we count 1908 as the start of our competition and count every NSWRL premiership winning team from 1908-1994 as premierships for NRL teams, then the Jets have played in the comp before.

All this is irrelevant and pointless talk. The Jets aren't getting into the comp for 2013, no QLD team is. End thread.
