Rest in Peace Rex "Moose" Mossop

Just mentioned on Triple M that he has passed away this morning at 83
Ray Warren took a call this morning from Moose's co-commentator Barry Ross informing him

Sad news to hear. I loved watching his Sunday morning sports show and especially Controversy Corner.

I really loved that post GF wrap-up where he got hit in the head with an apple.

But seriously sad to see him go. He may have been a loudmouthed idiot but he was entertaining as Harry Bath can attest:

BATH, MOSSOP SENT OFF
1959 GRAND FINAL FULLTIME: Saints 20 Manly 0
Scorers (St George) Tries: Eddie Lumsden 3, Brian Graham 1, Geoff Weekes 1, Norm Provan 1. Goals: Harry Bath 1.
Referee: D. Lawler
Crowd: 49,457

In the lead up to the Grand Final, rumours were circulating that Manly's Rex Mossop was carrying a broken cheekbone. From the match outset, Saints' forwards took turns at testing Mossop's head. Harry Bath gave Mossop particular attention. For most of the match, the Manly forward was copping a hammering. Finally, out of frustration, Mossop retaliated standing on Bath's head.
Inevitably a brawl broke out between Bath and Mossop and the referee, Darcy Lawler sent them both off. In the meantime, Saints' forwards were steam rolling Manly and the red and white backs were cutting loose. Winger Eddie Lumsden had a magnificent match, scoring a hat trick of tries.

RIP

Very sad, I grew up watching and listening to Rex calling games, and who could ever forget Controversey Corner on channel 7, especially the pass-the-ball contest.

Great man who was great for the game.

Vale Rex. Any bloke in the mid 30's to 40's will fell a sence of sadness at this news. Never forget his appearances on the Steve Vizard Show, they were gold.

We'll miss you Rex. RL in NSW in particular will always be in his debt - his match commentary and via Controversy Corner did much to transform RL into an enormously popular television sport.

For old time's sake..."George only know one way, and that's hard!" - Wests v Souths, Lidcombe Oval, 1976.

Easy to dislike Manly but never their figurehead. You were great while you lasted. RIP

I was introduced to RL through his calls. I loves his 70 minuted of whinging at Manly's pack for being soft in the 1982 GF. I loved his edxcitement at some biff. Les Boyd bleeding from the head "Boyd's spilling plenty of claret". Someone lying unconcious - "There was nothing in it!"

He was the man responsible for putting League on FTA. The best caller there was.

Minutes silence around the grounds is in order.

RIP Moose. Thanks for a sh*tload of memories.

Loved his appearance on Vizard next to Julian Clarey. Spat his coffee all over the floor and walked off the set. Moose was a man's man all the way. In a better place now. RIP.
