I can't agree about Mascherano but you are right about them not having a good team for a while and imo they haven't had a quality team since the 1998 world cup and their (mostly Maradona's) mistreatment of Riquelme was just stupid.

They have had some wonderful players upfront for the last 15-20 years but their midfield and defence has been barebones for a long time.

Watta result! Argentina humiliated at home!

The equaliser was a cracking goal by the way...

Brazil held to a 0-0 draw against Venezuela. Ecuador and Paraguay also draw 0-0.

Seems like the big guns are still asleep

As usual everyone is dumping on Messi but c'mon look at the rubbish in the Argentine team

Romero; Zanetti, Burdisso, Gabriel Milito, Rojo; Cambiasso, Banega, Mascherano; Lavezzi, Tevez, Messi

That's f**king rubbish. Their defence is non existant and their midfield is garbage. They don't have the ability to control the ball, they don't have the ability to keep teams out at the back so they're basically sending out a team hoping for Tevez or Messi to shine. The only good quality players in their squad: Messi, Tevez, Higuain, Diego Milito, Aguero and Lavezzi are ALL strikers. They should still be defeating Bolivia though but people need to calm down about Messi at international level when his country just flat out sucks.

they have good players though and at full strength should be destroying teams like bolivia with a team like this

Romero
Zanetti, Garay, Burdisso, Rojo
Banega, Mascherano
Messi, Pastore, Lavezzi
Higuain

either Tevez/Higuain can be the lone striker, Augero can be used as a super sub for either Lavezzi or Hig

lol Brazil, what a crappy performance. Should have had a penalty but don't deserve to take a point from Venezuela anyway.

Group C tomorrow and the most interesting group of the tournament

Uruguay v Peru then Chile v Mexico

That's still a rubbish defence and midfield and that's their problem. They have a good team against 3/4 of the crappy nations that participate in FIFA but they were exposed big time against Germany and nohing has improved 12 months later. The only good thing about the lineup you named and the lineup that played Bolivia is the strike force. They can't control the ball and get distribute to Messi, Tevez and co with any penetration.

ehh the argentina line-up isn't that terrible. the defense might be mediocre but we'd take any of those players for australia. even burdisso

messi has to win here imo. it's starting to look like his argentina mentality is ibra's big game mentality. if he can't win the copa, how's he going to win the world cup? and if he can't win the world cup, history won't name him alongside ronaldo and zidane, let alone maradona and pele

Pastore is a Brilliant midfielder and go watch some valencia games to to see how good Banega is

if the manager played that team in that formation for the rest of the tourney they will win it

Pastore is a number 10 which is more of a forward these days than a midfielder. Can't play him deep in midfield - they need someone there with creativity.

Surely they've got to start aguero or higuain ahead of lavessi next match.
Didn't watch the whole game but caught some of it, looked as if Argentina were lucky to even get a point from that.

No mean feat, but so far this tournament is even worse in standard than the 2002 World Cup. Boring as bat shit generally.

But we've seen a whole 3 goals from 5 matches!
Doesn't get much more exciting than that 0-0 draws

Edit - I forgot about group C...at least they've had a few goals in theirs
