Refs against Manly -- Slater try

This. The problem from last week - video refs - has not improved in a week, despite everything that happened last Friday night.

Harrigan needs to be sacked, end of story.

Pretty much.

All the refs have dropped in standards. I don't know what can be done to improve refereeing but I think refs need to make quicker calls.

It's hard to train refs I think. Players become coaches. Admin staff become CEO's. Refs become refs bosses and thats the problem. They've been incompetent for too long. I cant see any ref of the last 15 years that had a good grasp on the game that the majority agree with.

Ex players/coaches aren't the answer either because players and coaches are often wrong as well and will come across as bias when they make a contentious call. For example, Gus would make it legal to tackle a man without the ball.

I agree Witt the sentiment that it was no try.... But going by the letter of the law in the rule book I was not surprised in the least to see the green light.
I guarantee you that Hollywood is gonna use the rule book to hide behind this one to either quoting bots no separation or that it had been raked backwards by foran.......

Either way happy it had no bearing on the game over all.

Fore arm is classified as part of the hand when it comes to separation and determining if a try was scored.

So much Hoopla over an obvious decision. There is a reason the Video ref only had to look at 2 different angles.

I'm just glad that the majority of LU posters have now decided that the refs are fine and nothing should be done about their ineptitude.

Another BS call from the video refs last night. They should all be sacked, along with Harrigan and Raper.

The Commission need to get rid of this "no separation" BS and put the onus on the try scorer to have control of the ball with at least one hand.

I haven't read the whole thread but I heard on radio the other morning that ESL changed the BOTD rule to go in the defending team's favour a couple of years ago and it has cleaned up a lot of issues.

I would love to see it brought in here. Tries like last night's are embarrassing for the game.

Yeah it wasn't a try, but if more Manly fans said likewise about the Foran try last week instead of going on about the apparent butthurt this thread wouldn't be 8 pages long.

Most Manly fans said the Foran try shouldn't have been awarded. In fact the small number of Manly fans who defended the try would probably be equal to the number of Storm fans in this thread trying to defend the Slater try.

How do you come to that conclusion?

North Queensland fans were given the continuous insult that the better team won anyway last week so the decision never really mattered, by supporters of your club. We countered that if the Oldfield try had never been given that game could very well have been ours, a quite logical conclusion to draw. Now the situation is reversed why shouldn't you have to suffer the same indignity?

Your club was also on the receiving end of a marginal 50/50 BOTD call that also influenced the game heavily. Manly supporters have been more than happy to accept that decision. Yet now you expect a BOTD try against you to be shouted down by all and sundry. Deadset, get over yourselves.

The behaviour here by supporters of your club, and your very own players for that matter, won you no respect. Fair game I'm afraid.

It's the hypocrisy. I (and many other Manly fans, though certainly not all) condemned the refs after the Foran try and again after the Slater try. You and many other fans can't see past your hatred of Manly to act consistently.

Fact is, in both games the better team won and in neither game were the players, coaches, fans or clubs responsible for the inept calls. Fact is the outrage after the call last week simply would not have happened if it was not Manly that was the beneficiary of the dud call.

When the majority of Manly fans here were posting "LOL at the butthurt" and "dry your eyes" rubbish immediately after the Cowboys game, it's a little funny watching them expect some sort of sympathy tonight.

This

Some arsewipe Manly fan came onto the cowboys forum last week with these exact comments. I know the majority of manly fans are not like this arsewipe and are decent people but if I can direct this to the minority who crowed last week stick that up you you merkins !!

Perhaps because you were the beneficiary, you will not understand how much of an insult it is to hear the phrase 'the better team won anyway' in the context of last weeks match.

NQ had played very poorly, no doubt. But we were only one try out of this contest. That coming after a dubious 50/50 call that didn't go our way. There was every reason to believe we could come home with a wet sail and take the game. As a RL supporter you will know that anything is possible. This chance was cruelly taken from us.

So to hear from your mob 'the better team won anyway' you may start to understand why we have some 'hatred' for your club.

You'll get no sympathy from me for the perceived 'hypocrisy' and righteous indignation you feel. It's quite amusing at this point in time actually.

Was it Jamie Buhrer when asked about the dodgy calls after the game last week that he replied "In all honesty I couldn't care less."

Well I hope you feel the same this week Jamie.

Karma is a bitch.

1. It was a dubious try that got you back into the match so don't go crying about the Taufua try.

2. I don't want sympathy. Most fans hate Manly and that's fine. But if people really want something to be done about the ineptitude, surely there should be the same level of outrage whenever such a blatantly wrong call is made. I despise the Bulldogs but I expresed my outrage over the try that ultimately cost them a minor premiership in 2009 simply because it was about the referees and not the teams.

Don`t lump all Manly fans in the same basket as the OP, taking nothing away from Melbourne they were awesome last night, we were pathetic and the Slater Try was going to have no effect on the final result , as we were gone after the first Five Minutes, now to take away all the emotion out of it.......last week Manly did not make the decision to award the Try, the useless VR did, and the VR f**ked up again this week, I do not Know what has to happen to get it sorted.......but somthing has to be done, I just hope Tonights Match or The GF is not decided on one of these decisions

Good Luck to the Three remaining Teams, and May the best team win
