Matt Gillett has been bordering on terrible for more then a year now and is living on his early career form which is why so many people still have such a high opinion of him, as did I.
I no longer do, until if or when he ever recaptures that same form. But I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of Broncos players will not play anywhere near as well again now that the great Lockyer is not there conducting proceedings. They all seemed to play with an extra zing in their step, like they were super charged when Lockyer was on the field. For good reason of cause, Lockyer knew exactly how to move a team around the field and all they had to do was follow.
That is why so many good judges had the baby Broncos penciled in as Premiers within two to three seasons in Lockyers last season. No one in their right mind would suggest such a thing today, but wooden spoon could be a real possibility if they don't address their front row and halves problems, not to mention a coach that other NRL team players want to play for. Before everyone jumps down my throat on them ever becoming wooden spooners, I know it is very unlikely, I am just using hyperbole here.
Just on that, I know that Craig Bellamy has just signed on to coach Melbourne for another what 4 or 5 years and that he has stated that he will probably retire after that and that will probably coincide when the big 3 are also retiring or very close to doing so, but if I were the Broncos, I would be keeping an eye on Bellamy, just in case they are still to find that great coach that really can elevate a clubs fortunes. They don't grow on trees you know.
