Yeah dont know why youd want to lumber outrageous attacking talents like Milford with organising and defensive duties as well as largely restricting there freedom.

Leave him at FB, for most of his career. as far Im concerend

Considering all the accolades he's received so far are for his ability at 5/8 and half that makes no sense. On one leg he would have to be an improvement on McCrone. Already got a great fullback wasting away on the wing and it doesn't matter what Furner wants, if Milford wants to play half he'll go somewhere else.

Losses: Farrell, Starling, Asotasi, Peats

Gains: None

Re-signed: Turner, Burgess, Burgess, Burgess, McQueen, Sutton, Walker, Tyrrell, Goodwin

Doubt we'll sign anyone, probably re-sign a few more but realistically we'll have a small squad next year.

Burgess is on a back ended contract

That's quite a salary cap the Rabbitohs have got!

The only reason im willing to leave it at that is because the same can be said of my boys lol

I always love these sorts of comments. They completely ignore what is going on around a signing.

From our current roster we have lost (confirmed) -

Asotasi
Farrell
Peats
Starling

No announcements have been made but we are just about certain to lose-

Crocker
King

and we are rumoured to also be losing

Everingham
Clark
Hunt

So if all comes to fruition, we will lose 9 players from our current squad. Out of that lot, probably only Starling would have been on minimum wage and three of those guys would have made up a fair chunk of our cap.

Now when you consider that we are re-signing the Burgess boys, Walker and Keary, that means that some element of their new pay (whatever they are being paid now) was already budgeted toward our salary cap.

On top of this, there is a cap increase coming through and it has been widely reported that the only player in our entire squad who had a cap increase clause was Inglis. Basically we have a very large chunk of the increase still in hand.

We have signed no-one else for next year and I would imagine that if we do, they will be fringe first graders or guys from Under 20's.

If you take all of that into account, I can't see how you could possibly think that all would not be above board.

If we suddenly turn around tomorrow and sign Israel Folau for next season and no-one else moves on, then even I will start asking questions, but really, I think it is just a good piece of cap management and a bit of luck with increases all coming to fruition for Souths at a good time.

Well the irony and humour of my comment appears to have been lost. Despite the presence of my second sentence.

Ah it's the old Bulldogs style of recruitment "They're on nothing when they re-sign then when they leave they were all on $500k each"

Didn't the phone chucker say Sam Burgess came out here on about $150k as well lol

He has never been a natural ball player. His freakish skills have allows him to dominate in the halves as a kid. But ball playing in the NRL is entirely different. He struggled earlier this year as a ball player in the halves and now seems to relish the freedom of being a ball runner at fullback. He seems to be loving his footy right now, and I think he understands ball playing at NRL level will take time and his best position at the moment is fullback.

He's 19 years old. He could play 2 full years at fullback honing his ball playing skills and move to the halves when he's 21. Or he could master his play as fullback and play there all his career. But right now there is no doubt fullback is his spot. In 3 months, 1 year, 5 years who knows but for now he is a fullback and genuinely seems comfortable and happy playing there.

Don't know if I would call Robinson a great fullback. He has some attacking ability but his positioning and urgency in defence is atrocious.

That was proven to be correct, when Burgess was caught in customs when he first arrived from the esl, it had his income from footy(souths at $150k),mighty fine recruiting Rusty,Burgess wasn't impressed his wages were made public.
Considering he was earning more than $150,000 pounds at bradford it didn't make sense.

Sorry mate, I've think we've both been had by Noa, I need more sleep. I was preoccupied with finding a way for Canberra to keep Milford, considering halfbacks are like rocking horse shit and Brisbane wouldn't waste his talent sitting out 5 of 6 plays at fullback. Brisbane wouldn't consider a young bloke who left the 20's early because he was so good in a position as worthy cultivating in that same position in the NRL. Good one Noa

Are we talking about Robinson or Hayne, any club would rather look for a fullback than a halfback . . . the former can be picked but the latter doesn't grow on trees

Amazing how he wasn't made to pay full market value like Parra and Falonk????? There are rules for some clubs and not others.

When Burgess first arrived he was a young bloke looking to test himself in the NRL. He had done well in the ESL but thats like being the best player in reserve grade here. He was an unknown commodity.

Folau is a former QLD and Australian rep. Everyone knows how good he is.

BIG difference.

Within 12 months, Burgess had earned an upgraded contract.

But keep going on with your conspiracy theory and proving what an imbecile you are. It's good entertainment for everyone else here.

It's weird that Sam was rated over there, played for England, but that year he signed he couldn't make the ESL team of the year, or what ever they call it.

You know he was only getting paid $150k though. There would be no way they would lie to Customs about his income just to get around the salary cap. It isn't worth the risk for very harsh penalties for Sam and Souths
