Firstly, I am extremely thankful that Latrell most likely won't miss any games because of this. That is a massive relief. However, taking my Red and Green glasses off, I can' help but feel that these sanctions are a little light. I was fearing the worst and expecting us to be without Latrell for at least a month.

Pete, it's amazing how our own supporters turn into traitors so quickly.
With all due respect Southy, I don't appreciate being called a traitor. I support this club with all my heart and it is my life which hopefully you know. I have said multiple times that I love Latrell and support him fully but this is one of those situations you just can't defend. It's being realistic, what they did was just not okay in this current climate. There are livelihoods at stake here and on an even bigger scale, lives at stake. It's not okay to break the rules and there is no excuse. I'd say exactly the same if a family member of friend (all people I love) were in the same position.

I think you'll find that was a Photoshopped tweet:

Tell you what, JAC and Latrine would be so proud of how quickly you played the racist card
Easy to play the cards when you’ve got them ready to throw down. Can’t be too easy though, one eye and all

Some great news today!

Jaydn Su’A activates option in contract for Season 2021: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2020/04/30/jaydn-sua-activates-option-in-contract-for-season-2021/

Su'A seals his South Sydney Future: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2020/04/30/sua-seals-his-south-sydney-future/

Very happy to see this. For me, Jaydn is a potential superstar. He does have a lot to work on but you can see that he has all the makings of a great second rower and I'm very excited to see how he develops.

Sam Burgess says Latrell Mitchell is a ‘big fish’ in NRL. Now he must learn from his mistakes: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...e/news-story/4656b3253f96d26695658faa9a81b794

From Zero Tackle,

Buzz Rothfield defends Latrell Mitchell

The Daily Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield has leapt to Latrell Mitchell’s defence following the controversies involving the Rabbitohs star, Josh Addo-Carr and Nathan Cleary.

The NRL hit Addo-Carr and Mitchell with $50,000 fines and and Cleary was handed a $10,000, all of which are suspended 60 per cent for the rest of the season.

The trio were also given one-match suspensions.

Rothfield has been left shocked and wondering why Mitchell and Addo-Carr received the same fine given Mitchell was on his own property.

“I just for the life of me can’t understand why Latrell Mitchell has been treated as harshly as Josh Addo-Carr,” Rothfield told The Daily Telegraph NRL Podcast.

“Latrell didn’t go camping — he was on his own property. Latrell didn’t have two prior COVID-19 warnings.

“Latrell didn’t leave his property to go riding unregistered motorbikes on the beach at South West Rocks.

“Latrell didn’t foolishly post the photos on social media.

“It’s wrong that he has been treated as harshly as Josh Addo-Carr.

“I’m not in the business of defending (Latrell) because I think the punishment he got was the right one but the other guys should have got much heavier.”

Callmack, you seem to be a fair minded person regarding this. Far more than some of your fans, anyway.
I have 2 queries for you, and both will wind up the masses here to no end, but I'm curious to see what you think.
1 . . . If this happened to the Roosters, can you imagine the endless tirades from your fans about favouritism, special treatment, damaging the game at a sensitive time, etc, etc, etc.
Take off your Souths glasses and ask yourself if the greater league community might just have a point about the special treatment Souths AND the Roosters, AND Brisbane get. The feather slap those boys got was disgusting. The league community is sick of the favouritism that the few special clubs get, and sadly we now have to face the fact that, despite the bravado and tough talk, V'Landys is just as friggin useless as Greenburg.
2 . . . For Latrell to play the racism card is disgusting. And, dare I say it, racist. It was a boys weekend pure and simple. There is no " cultural connect" about riding dirt bikes (very few Yamaha 125's about in the dreamtime), and I would have thought that indigenous people would NEVER be seen having fun with the weapon of choice of Cook and his men that caused so much pain to their people at the first landing.
Mitchell had the chance to man up and just admit the boys got a bit toey and went up the coast for a few days. Oh no. Play the race card. Say it is for culture reasons, when the cold hard truth is that culture had SFA to do with it.
What do you think ?

Thanks mate! I certainly agree with you about most of this.

Firstly, I feel like I've said this a lot, but I'll say that I love my club and I love Latrell. I fully support him. However, there is just no defending what he did and I would say the same if it was one of my close friends or a family member in his position.

To answer your first point, I don't think Latrell, Addo-Carr and Cleary got favourable treatment from the NRL because of the club they play for. In my opinion, that punishment would've been the same for any player at any club. But like you say, taking off my Souths glasses, I don't think the punishment is right. $50,000 is fair enough, that's a suitable fine but I really thought they were going to miss at least four games before the NRL made their decision. So yes, I agree that the punishments were simply a slap on the wrist. Not sure if you saw my post at the time this was announced but I did say I'm glad Latrell won't miss any games for us but I thought the punishment was very light.

To your second point, I could not agree more. Again, I'm not sure if you saw my post at the time but I was very disappointed in Latrell's response. He should have just completely owned up, admitted he stuffed up, was stupid and taken full responsibility. To play the race card is a complete cop out. This virus doesn't discriminate and the rules around the virus don't discriminate either. Everyone, not matter what culture, MUST follow them and your culture or religion does not make you exempt from the rules.

Hope that answers your questions man.

They are the big clubs and that's where all the big news is.

callmack . . . well said. I knew I picked the right bloke to have a reasonably intelligent discussion with.
At the end of the day, we are talking about young blokes with the world at their feet, women fawning over them, and money to burn. If the wrong people get in their ear, it can go pear-shaped in a hurry.
Cheers !

Hahaha, thanks bro! You're 100% right. A lot of players in the NRL aren't fully mature and we need to remember that. That's not a knock on them, it's just reality because of age. They need good mentors around them to help out and to give them someone to lean on. This is kind of what I'm a bit worried about with Latrell as I'm wondering if he has those great mentors around him. Of course, his family, Wayne as well as guys like GI, Sam and Sutto can be massive helps to him in that regard.

I really hope that he can use all of this as well as all the other criticism he has copped in the past few months as fuel going into the Season restart. When you think about it, on paper, there should be no more driven player than Latrell when we kick off and I hope that proves to be the case. Honestly, how good would it be to see him come out, get it right, kill it for the Season and slap all the critics in the face?! That would be great!!

I still feel that it's going to take some time, especially now. We can't expect it to happen straight away and we'll probably see some more average games from him, that's okay as long as we see improvement. Maybe a stint in the centres to get back into it is what he needs but I have full faith and full confidence in him that he can be a star at fullback.
