    NRL Rd 27 2024 - General Non-Warriors Thread

To provide a more balanced perspective, it would be fair to say that part of the reason why I perceive the Dolphins as having a strong squad is because of good talent identification and recruitment. Like, Bostock and Fuller are both new players brought in under Bennett who I now see as very...

    SJ.

Yeah I think it's as simple as this. It's an over-correction by pundits who haven't followed his career closely. By having a great 2023 season and then an exciting retirement game, he's done enough to create a narrative of "veteran halfback still playing at a high level right till the end", for...

    Curran

I saw some stats posted the other day making this exact point, that Curran has basically been playing the same minutes as he did in 2023 and also mostly coming off the bench. Nothing much has really changed except that he felt slighted in 2023 because his role was reduced from 2022. The irony is...

    NRL Rd 27 2024 - General Non-Warriors Thread

Hot take - to me, Bennett hasn't done a good job with the Dolphins at all? That squad seems to me to have plenty of talent, literally one of the most exciting backlines in the comp and an outstanding young half (who he inexplicably decided not to pick). Their forwards have a lot of good names...

    Bandwagon

Honestly probably the Storm. I get why people hate them but for me, they deserve it the most - both this year and from a historical perspective i.e. they haven't really won as many premierships as they should have to reflect 20-odd years of excellence. I definitely live in opposite world though...

    2024 R27 Fri - South Sydney 28-36 Sydney @ Accor

I agree, although FWIW I also think the Hammer’s speed is the most overrated in the comp 😅

    2024 R27 Fri - South Sydney 28-36 Sydney @ Accor

I’m here by myself? ok It’s NAH - WAH - NGA - NEE - TAH - WAH - SEH Toughest part is the ‘nga’ which is a similar sound to ‘Nga’ in the Maori language and ‘Ga’ in Samoan (yes, you were pronouncing ‘Galuvao’ wrong). You just have to make the ‘ng’ sound from an English word like ‘angry’ or...

I had Munro running 92 metres in 11 seconds carrying a football with 1 leg working which seems pretty good

    Curran

I haven't been watching the Bulldogs super closely, but hasn't Curran actually played sort of the same role that he did for the 2023 Warriors anyway? He was mad because he thought he should've been a locked in starter here. At the Dogs he's been coming off the bench a lot, shuffled around...

    Curran

Those comments from Curran make him sound like a tosser tbh and retrospectively justify what Webster did I also don't like that he was on the "Once a Warrior" show and spun a different yarn about leaving because he was homesick.

Mr. Angry. R.I.P some sad news

RIP Mr Angry. His passing takes me back to the "olden days" of LU when there was a bit more of an active scene around the various forums (like the FFB in particular) and Mr A was a distinctive presence all over the place. These days I'm a bit stuck talking "serious" footy over in the Warriors...

    Mr. Angry

RIP. Had a number of interactions with Mr Angry over the years, if I'm honest (no offence anyone) a lot of the faceless "profiles" on forums tend to blend together in my mind a bit but Mr A was always someone with a very distinctive persona. This also sort of makes me yearn for the "glory days"...

    Team v Sharks

I feel sorry for CNK tbh. I think he's basically played the same as last year (I imagine the stats would show this) and he's being criticised because the team sucks. All effort, high work rate FB in a good team - "He's exactly what we need" All effort, high work rate FB in a shit team - "We...

    Team v Sharks

I honestly just think CNK is playing centre because our top 3 centres are out and Webster thinks this is the strongest team available (i.e. he rates Tuaupiki higher than MGT). Remember CNK played 6 against the Panthers, so it's not a hard and fast policy that CNK must be fullback. I think the...

Need to round Hoines, spoin and bloind off with "BROILLIANT, just BROILLIANT" for the full Ennis effect

    Season 2024 in Review

I think I rate Capewell's season higher than most because I had lower expectations. I always thought he was a bit of a plodder and, as a specialist edge player, he's not really a high work rate player either. Plus he's clearly past his best. I actually think with some of his tries and his line...

Correct. And here I am, a parochial man, who genuinely believes that Australians specifically are massive cheats :D. I acknowledge my own bias.....and I still reckon they're cheats. (I also acknowledge that what I'm saying here is bigoted on national/cultural grounds, but it's a hill I'll...

Why would it need to be a "conspiracy"? It's as simple as Australians officiating an NZ team and implicit bias existing. Although on top of that, if it makes me boring or stupid to hold the opinion that Australians are, as a cultural norm, bigoted cheats, then I'm proud to be boring and stupid.

Yep. Moving SJ on at the end of 2018 was a questionable move - because we had no clear replacement. It was also (and I think plenty of people understood this at a time) a completely reasonable move in isolation, because SJ was 8 seasons into his career and showing no signs of improvement...
