There was talk a few weeks ago about a hook-up between Ipswich Jets & Newtown Jets bidding this round. I suspect that Brisbane (Easts) Tigers are likely putting an application forward too. On another front, I'm pretty sure the Brisbane Bombers bid syndicate just fell apart when they missed out...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Well, so far all of them have managed to avoid the media spotlight since the NDA took effect - and I assume (probably safely) they're happy with flying under the radar like that. They'll likely reply to any journalist asking for their views on the Bears omnishambles & the prospect of expansion...

    2025 NRL Jerseys, Sponsorship, Logos

This is great on a number of points - a Gold Coast team wearing yellow/gold is a no-brainer.. clear distinction from Dolphins (red) and Broncos (Maroon) home jerseys in the SE-Qld market and distances them from looking like some kinda cross between Cronulla & Parramatta.. and the overall lack...

    2025 NRL Jerseys, Sponsorship, Logos

Urgh.. that blue is way too dark. What are they trying to do, become the Cowboys or something??

    WA BEARS

VERY good question, and it's increasingly looking like the NRL using Perth as "a means to an end" - the end being the Bears back as some big hat-tip to NSW folks' sense of nostalgia.

You're right - and that certainly makes the NRL's demands - and lack of consistency- look particularly bizarre & perverse.

Hehehe.. I assume the admins will be billing you shortly ;) But in all seriousness, it's good to see points being made here that step aside from bias (against PVL or against the Perth bid) and try to analyze the setup of this entry fee. You raise a great point that if the entry fee was/is...

Stop it, you're making far too much sense for this sub-forum ;)

Remember when Radiohead released an album online and asked people to "pay whatever you want"? Yeah, just like that.

Good summary. It has me scratching my head too.

    WA BEARS

Precisely. I've seen so many here point fingers at the NRL *or* the bid, when in reality both sides have been utter numptys and the game's image suffers from such a ramshackle series of events that could easily have been fixed - if not AVOIDED entirely - by planning & communication.
  12. flippikat

    WA BEARS

That's my take too. BOTH sides were guilty of mistakes, making assumptions, poor communication, ego, you name it. It's a shit show all round, and the whole game suffers for it.

To steal a phrase from Balki Bartokomous, "Of course it won't, don't be RIDICULOUS..." ;)

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Spot on. The bid needs to play to it's strengths - and one of it's biggest (and indeed UNIQUE) strengths is the "perfect conditions & comfort *guaranteed*" that One NZ & Forsythe Barr stadiums offer. Taking regular season games anywhere else undermines that selling point.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The Warriors can see the writing on the wall - at some stage a 2nd NZ team will happen, and Christchurch had distance from the Warriors, a great sporting culture and (most crucially) an impressive COVERED rectangular stadium in the works - which crucially could spur copycat builds elsewhere when...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Compared to the very public details on Perth, PNG & to a degree that Ipswich/Newtown bid, the field of NZ bids have been conspicuously WATERTIGHT as far as any details & updates go. That shows they're taking the non disclosure aspect extremely seriously, which surely has to make an impression...

    18th club, whose next?

Pacifica, out of the South Island?? Man, you REALLY don't know the demographics there, do ya??
  18. flippikat

    PNG's back.

International footy has long been treated as an "inconvenience" and an injury risk in trivial games for the clubs' precious superstars. To be honest, it was verging on trivial when the Kangaroos reliably steamrolled everyone just about every outing, apart from the "once in a blue moon" win the...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

so... Perth Bears (Owned & run by some combination of Norths, WA Govt & the NRL itself) & Christchurch Jets (Newtown and/or NRL owned & operated) if nothing that was on the table a week ago is palatable to the NRL anymore ??

    WA BEARS

We know that the bid that's been nixed holds the "Western Bears" trademark, but WHO holds the trademark for "Perth Bears" - or any other iteration with regards to a potential NRL team ("The Bears", "West Coast Bears", "West Australia Bears" etc etc)?? I suspect a bit of sleuthing on those...
