    It's no different to Gyngell moving the Sunday game to 4pm so it's live, the NRL were never going to convince broadcasters to pay the game millions more for rights they already owned. Not having to wait until 2018 for all games live, control of schedule, simulcasting, an NRL channel and 4 FTA...

    The AFL will get about $27m pa more in their deal with an extra game, the financial value of the deals are pretty similar.

    Nine own the games under the current contract signed 4 years ago, fox are probably just reducing Nine's financial liability for the remaining 2years of that contract.

    They are also giving up 5 sat night games, if they are paying more it would be to Nine, not the NRL, Nine owned those games for the next 2 years, not the NRL.

    it's not, it is for 5 years @1.8bn, the financial terms of the current deal will remain until the increased money kicks in for 2018-22. Nine get thursday's, which is why they are giving up simulcasting, fox get fri 6pm, which is why they will give up MNF in 2017.

    I meant under the old deal which has had the Broncos play nearly every home game on a friday night, under the new deal the Warriors fans are no worse off than Broncos fans have been.
